- Summer's palling, fall's calling
- Posted by Laurie B.
It's 8,000 degrees F outside (or at least that what it feels like)
and, while wearing a light top, short skirt and the slide of the
moment fresh from my closet, I'm looking through magazines thinking,
"I can't wait to wear purple velvet."
In many parts of the US, summer's just getting started after a long
winter. Not that I despise wearing summer clothes and doing summer
things, but I've almost had my fill of summer and am turning my eye
toward fall. I haven't really looked too much at the designer trends
yet, but here's what sounds good to me now:
--the aforementioned purple velvet in a long skirt with godet pleats
--a chunky, textured navy turtleneck in a big, soft knit that's not
too loose
--burgundy boots; I will know them when I find them
--some sort of lightweight jacket or coat, one of those in-between
things that's hard to get right
What clothes for fall are on your mind now? (Southern Hemispherians,
please exchange "spring" for "fall!").......Laurie B.

I'm honestly not sure yet. I think this all depends on what size I'm at post
partum. I plan to start back on WW immediately. But usual pieces of clothing
in my collection, regardless of size:
long sleeved cashmere vnecks in various dark colors
long black skirts in whatever cut is flattering to figure at the moment
cord trousers in brown, black, navy
black heeled boots and brown moc croc pumps
black leather blazer
Plus this year I plan to implement scarves into my fall wardrobe.
Minimal jewelry, sans wedding ring, a new watch (to replace the two that were
stolen) and maybe a really good pair of basic gold studs for ears. I never
wear earrings, but I think it's time I start again.

Same here in NC. We had a very wet May and June. It's really only now
getting, and staying, hot. We've had a few odd hot days but it only now
feels like summer. I won't be thinking about fall till at least late
September or early October.

I'm right there with you, Laurie. Not that I'm not enjoying wearing my capris
and shorts and sundresses and sandals, etc., but I am so weary of this heat. I
don't do heat very well! Plus, just the other day I was looking in my closet
and found a bunch of brand new winter things I bought back in March on
clearance. Great sweaters, a long black coat, some black boots, a P-coat in
red ... They still have the tags on them. I can't wait to wear them! It'll
be October before we see any signs of cooler weather around here, though. --

it feels like summer has only been around for a few short days here in md, so i
am not ready to look ahead to the next season yet! with the cold winter and
too rainy spring (that seems to still be continuing here) this summer has been
a big jip

I firmly refuse to speak of fall. summer in oregon is perfectly perfect, and I
will not consider fall. except for the nordstrom anniversary sale, but all
purchases will be stored in the back of the closet until the rain comes. (in
october and it stays until June)

I've waited 7 long months for this heat and am loving it up. Wearing
(lightweight) wool items into June was no fun so the shorts and tanks,
sleeveless dresses, sandals I get to wear now feel like heaven!
Purple velvet does sound like fun, but I'm enjoying the feel of sun on my
arms for now.
Not quite yet, maybe at the end of September wool, long sleeves, and boots
will start to look fresh and new.

What she said (sorry, LaurieB!). Although the climate in DC differs
ever-so-slightly from Oregon's ;-), I'm so happy summer is finally here after
our terrible winter and spring.
Plus I have dresses I haven't even worn yet this summer!

Ditto. We won't be having real summer outside our doorsteps for another two
months anyway. It's sunny and mid 60's with a chilly breeze (OK, fogged in a
couple miles closer to the coastline.) However, I can catch real summer in
full swing if I drive 20 mins.

Many years ago, I stopped wearing blouses, even with suits, opting
instead for sweaters or other stretch tops. This year, however,
blouses seem to be beckoning me back. I just ordered about 7 on
clearance from Coldwater Creek (in hopes that maybe 2 will fit), using
my 30% off coupon. This may mean that I also need a new iron to make
those blouses presentable.
I could really use two or even 3 new suits (eyes on ebay and Syms
already).
A pair of knee high leather boots -- burgundy would be perfect, but I
may need to settle for tan.

We've been having the best spring and summer in the Netherlands since anyone
can remember. I love summer, hate winter so I cannot even bear to think of
fall and winter clothes. You can all discuss the coming fall fashions. I'm
trying to extend summer as long as possible.

I am feelin' ya, girl! I'm a cold weather gal and I can't wait for the
mercury to fall below 50. Not sure what I want brand-wise, but I will
be needing a great pair of boots AND a new coat this winter. A
shopping trip is afoot!! (Get it...I need boots..."afoot?" I know,
really bad joke.)
xoxo,
Audra

I'm with you. I'm still recovering from last Winter. From December through
most of May I never thought I'd be warm again. We've had a few scorchers
lately here in New York City, but if it gets really bad, I just think back
to what it was like in January & February, & I stop complaining.
