- Secret to keeping shipping costs low when swapping?
- Posted by Qintes
Anytime I order off the internet I pay about $5-$6 shipping. Even if
it's a pile of books from Amazon. Today I went to UPS to send my first
MUA swap. I sent a jar of FY Eye with a few little extras in a box that
was about 4"x4"x 2". I didn't need to buy any packing supplies from
them. My shipping charge was $10! That seems so steep for something so
small. Is there a secret I'm missing?
TIA,
Pam

Don't go to UPS. The USPS would be *much* cheaper, good grief.

Use USPS! You probably would have paid around $4 for Priority Mail.

Gotta agree. The post office has generally done a fine job for me, and
they're world's cheaper than the competition.

And don't use Mail Boxes Etc. (if you still have them, most have changed to UPS
Stores) They charge a fee on top of regular USPS prices, and won't do parcel
post.

OMG, yeah. Talk about huge, huge sticker shock! I nearly dropped dead when I
used them once.

UPS is good for heavier items (I forget the exact weight, I think it is
around 3 lbs) AND they don't charge extra for insurance. I usually use it
when I ebay electronics. I save at $8 with UPS.
Online vendors get discounted rates for shipping in mass quantity sometimes.

yowza! was this us to us? i took a gander at the ups site, and for a
package of these dimensions to cost 10.00 it would have to weigh 6 pounds.
i used the option of dropping it off at a ups facility, and having it sent
to a residential address.
your receipt should have a weight of the package...you might want to check
it.

I checked all over that darn receipt for a clue as to why the price was
so high but there was nothing. There was just a checkmark by "weight".
Hmmmm.
