In search of a foundation primer or other recommendation
Posted by Lydia

Hi all,

I've been away for a while but I'm back and I need your help!

I recently received a sample of the Shiseido Elixir Base Conditioning
Gel (as seen on Shieseido's website here -
http://www.shiseido.co.jp/elixir/img/elc05015.jpg - I hope that's it
since the text is too small to read and I don't understand Japanese).
It's a silicon based *tinted* foundation primer with a consistency of
more of a moisturizer than a gel however goes on smooth like a gel (do
you know what I mean?). It gives me smooth matt skin that makes any
type of foundation go on so smoothly and skily afterwards. I've used
several tubes of the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer but it is not
nearly as smooth and silky. Plus the LM is not tinted.

I understand that this product is probably not sold in the US so if
anyone could kindly tell me how I either purchase this product online
or give me recommendation of a comparable product, I'd highly
appreciate it.

Thanks.

Not familiar with the Shiseido product but I found the LM to be more of a light
moisturizer than a true foundation primer. For the latter I would suggest
either the English Ideas or Smashbox primers, both of which are superb
products.

Is EL Idealist considered a primer?

You might want to try checking out the NARS Foundation Primer. From what I
understand, their skincare line is produced by Shiseido, so I'm not sure
whether some of their formulations may be similar (and if it's so with the
makeup line too).
