- For Maurey and other Hermes fans--picture of double plisse
- Posted by Trilby
I was browsing eBay and found an auction for a double plisse scarf. Since
I recently posted that I'd never seen one and couldn't comment, I thought
I'd post the url so we could all be on the same page, so to speak.

This scarf will probably be a hot collectible; the Hermes ladies are crazy
about the Kachinas pattern. It doesn't do anything for me, but the double
plisse technique looks really, really, cool.

I like the way the pleads gives the scarf a different texture but I
don't like the print or color scheme of this particular scarf. I
adore scarves and have a pretty big collection, however, it's
extremelly rare (if ever) that I have seen a Hermes scarf and thought
that it was beautiful enough to pay the insane prices they fetch.

All you gotta do is hold an Hermes scarf up to the light, say
in front of a window, and then you will be a believer.
Incandescent. Magic. Like nothing else on earth.

better. (No offense to those who love the style, but the whole

To me, the plisse scarf combines the best of the classic Hermes silk twill
scarf and the classic Slinky toy. They are amazingly beautiful,
crisp, perfectly executed, and a delight to the eye and sense of
touch. And like a slinky, they are so fun to play with that they
are addictive and mindlessly soothing. Sometimes I take one out
of its little hatbox, spread it out on the bed, admire it, and
then squish it back shut, roll if up, and put it away. You have not lived
until you have squished a plisse shut. And you can quote me.
Therefore, I'd like to see whether the double plisse could possibly
improve on the plisse.

The double plisse is also known as the mosaic plisse because it is
knife-pleated, that is, the pleats lie flat and are not in 'v's. The
pleats across both diagonals form the mosaic pattern. It looks beautiful
but is exceedingly stiff and thick, thus displays best in the simple
bias fold.
It doesn't really squish.. but it does kinda go *sproing!*
