I jjust made my first necklace!
Posted by Jan G

After messing around, making a memory wire bracelet and Christmas napkin
rings, I made my first serious necklace. I used alternating black tiger's
eye and small gold beads, finishing it off with a gold toggle closure.

It turned out really well, IMHO.

My next one will be a Celtic pendant scavanged from another necklace and
using garnet beads, pewter rondels and some celtic knotwork beads I have
ordered. Hope they get here soon!

Happily beading in the 'burgh!

I used to look at jewelry and think "How pretty" now I think "How did they
do that". I check out the cheap stuff at Target looking for beads to
scavenge.

I have to thank DH for overhearing me and future DIL talking at
Thanksgiving about beading and lampwork. She was a glassblower and also
made some beads. He got me the essentials.

What fun!

Check out this list of links to help you with your beading -- no money-making

I just took a glance at your site and it has so many references. I
already found an answer to a question I had about sizing and number of beads
in hanks.
Thanks, again!

You will find, soon, that my lust for a couple of those huge hardware
organizers (the big box full of 64 or so different drawers for
organizing screws and nuts and things that you can find in KMart,
etc.) in which to keep all my beads sorted is not, in fact,
impractical, or even ridiculous. See, getting more beads only
leads to *needing* more beads, and more, and more...

Try eBay for beads, too. This is where I seem to get the best prices
on most things, though it does take some research.

Enjoy!

Jewelry making--it is so addicting!
I don't even want to think about how much I spend at a place called Bead
Traders.
It is fun to make something just the way you want it, exact colors and
special charms, etc.
My jewelry armoire overfloweth now with my own creations. Plus, its nice
having those tools around to repair other jewelry.
My latest tool purchase was a thing you use to make loops in wire. I'm
still practicing.

That's so great! I love it when that happens! Check out the Instructions
section, too -- it has good stuff from very basic to more advanced. (Some are
just simple answers.)

Well, I am going out tomorrow to go computer shopping. Looks like I will
have to stop at the Lowes or Home Depo out there as well. I have seen them
there for good prices.
Getting too many things like findings and beads and I am just waiting for
the Wheatens to go tearing around, knocking over the table that I have
everything piled on, sending hoops and beads flying! Got a great light at
Staples with a magnifier.

I spent the afternoon at one of our client's stores doing photos for her
web site. She has an upscale children's shop. We were doing communion
dresses and accessories. She had a bracelet of memory wire, strung with
faux pearls, some crystal beads and 2 cheap aluminum religious charms. The
price? $29.95

Hmmmmmmm, she said......

FWIW -- and also YMMV, haw! -- I don't use those drawer thingies. A lot of
folks do, though. I prefer to see my stuff, and those tiny drawers just drive
me crazy! ARRGH!

Haw haw! Oh yes....I remember the huskies tearing through my stuff, and
everything *did* go flying. Yeek.

An Ott light?!?!?!?!?!? :-D
