dr. visit/what should I get to pamper myself?

tomorrow morning I have to go to my doctor for a full physical with
bloodwork, etc. he's not certain exactly what's going on with me
(definitely lots of stress, but it seems to have many physical
manifestations as well), but I'm about to get tested for some fairly
serious illnesses and I'm anxious about both the testing and the results.

I haven't spoken about this before here because it just didn't seem like
a good idea to share it, but I'm so nervous right now I can't stand it.

so to help forget the bad stuff and focus on the good, what do you folks
recommend I get myself after I weather this day-long physical tomorrow?
I haven't done the "buy myself something for a doctor visit" approach
before, but I want to try it now. what's good, new, different or
luxurious out there? any suggestions are welcomed.

thanks,
-Diane

Good luck with your testing. Hopefully the test results yield a minor health
problem and you can get back on the stress-free track very soon.
How about a spa visit this week?
An expensive pair of heels or boots, plus a pretty handbag?

Diane
I will pray that you hear only good news. Why not splurge on really
expensive
lingerie, a soft bath robe or very high end products. A massage is also in
order.

Good luck and good vibes from me and the Jack Russell!

How about some decadent luncheon at some "A" list restaurant? If it's a
full physical you've probably fasted, if you're not feeling up for food
how about spa manicure and pedicure followed by a really well deserved
pair of sandals. Some of the resort stuff is stunning and it will bring
a touch of spring into a drab, semi-depressing winter day.

many thanks!

you're right, I will be starving. I can have nothing but water from now
until I'm done with the testing (not even my pain meds, and I have a
raging case of shingles), so a nice lunch with my husband will feel
good. thanks for the excellent suggestions!

thank you, Audrey. I think a massage would feel fantastic. perhaps the
doctor will even order it! I can always hope. either way, that or some
acupuncture would be relaxing and would help. also, I'm finally
beginning a bereavement group next week, so I hope that brings me some
peace.

on-topic -- what bathrobes are the best? I have a lovely Italian
polished cotton one and a Guy Laroche robin's egg blue one, but neither
is truly luxurious.

thanks,
Diane

thank you, Carol. I have the same hopes you have. I think I'll combine a
few suggestions and schedule acupuncture and some massage. handbags are
always nice, though, aren't they? a Burberry one shouldn't set me back
too much. hmmmmm.

thanks again,
Diane

I think this is a fantastic idea. The spa sounds nice but after a physical
you might not be in the mood for more touching and prodding.

New shoes!! But then you knew I was gonna say that! :-)

I really can't add to the great suggestion of food, massage etc. but I will
be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way.

Hey Diane,

I have faith you'll be OK--Lord knows after the year you've had
anyone's immune system would be seriously stressed.

Here are some ideas for treats that are buoying to the spirit:

--expensive candles (I bought two Illumine ones yesterday

--a cashmere sweater in a delicious buy impractical color (perhaps
pale tangerine to match your new scarf!)

--shoes you don't need but adore

--5 or 6 wonderful books evenly divided between books you want
to read and wonderful art books you like to look at

--any Nars!

xxxx & thinking of you,
aj

thanks for being so understanding. you'd be amazed at how some others
responded to news of my worries/stress...but never mind that.

I especially love this one!

I always "need" more, right?

cool, because I have an order that's about to come in! some pulp, some
art, some serious reading. excellent.

just received the lip lacquer palette for Xmas, but I'm sure I could use
another shadow duo! I need to finish applying for my MA discount anyway,
right? it's a legitimate business thing!!!

thank you so much.

That was going to be my suggestion. You could pick whatever you are most
into.. shoes, boots, bags, coats, etc, and buy yourself something amazing.
Or, go to a cosmetics counter and try some new extravagant things that you
normally wouldn't indulge in. You can never go wrong with a
manicure/pedicure/facial/massage IMO, either.

Or you could combine all of the above, and buy a new lipstick, a fancy
wallet, and get a spa service, and feel like a complete queen for a day.
Sometimes when I am down, surrounding myself with several small wonderful
new things is even better than a single big fabulous new thing.

<hugs>, I am sending good vibes for everything to turn out okay!

Hope all goes well at the doctors Diane.

How about lunch with the hubby as has been suggested above, and an afternoon
with him, shopping for lingerie, shoes and chocolate goodies with lots of
hugs and kisses?

thanks, S. I did get myself a lovely Hermes scarf over the Xmas holidays

handbag and I think I'll seek one out. what materials appeal to you? I'm
not one of the jelly kelly folks (no disparagement intended, but they're
not right for me), and spring will happen here within a month. any ideas?

thanks again, friend.

thanks so much! I won't clog the group more with my responses, but I
really want to thank everyone for thinking of me and making such
wonderful suggestions! I'll keep collecting them and as I said before,
I'll check in with results when I get them. some of these tests will
take a month or so.

ah well. more goodies and lunches to go with the doctor visits, right?
is that the way it works?

Diane, I hope everything will be okay. I think everyone else's ideas are
fabulous! Personally I'd splurge on a wonderful purse (lately I've been
lusting after that Luella Barton Giselle handbag. I like that knockoff from
Arden B. though) or a great pair of shoes. Good luck and have fun
splurging/pampering.

Since you'll be waiting a month or more for the results, why not a very
relaxing lunch or tea after the initial visit and then a massage every week
leading up to the "big" day?
