Weight loss

Well I think I have found a solution to my problem [ loosing
weight] One of you kind lot suggested that my calorie intake
was perhaps too little. Well it probably is and that is a
guess because I cannot be bothered to work it out precisely.

I have tried to increase calorific intake but with
dificulty. There are so many things that I seem unable to
tollerate. But I have been experimenting and I now have a
possible solution. And this is going to make a few of you as
jealous as hell - - ha!!!

Last night i ate a whole bar of chocolate - plain dairy
milk. Took my BG before 98.6 and one hour after 103 and 2
hours later 95.2. Now that was a trila run and done in the
evening. [2 hours after taking my meds] So today I am going
to try it again this time before I take my meds.

If it works then I may have a very nice way of getting a few
more calories. I'll let you know how it goes. I am confident
because a few weeks ago I ate some of the same chocolate and
noticed there was not the BG increase I expected. [Think I
posted something to the effect]

Well I am off camping for a while so get back to you
tomorrow night.

Take care all.

Pete [ Very enthusiastic all of a sudden]

I have the same experience with chocolate. It never raises my BG level
significantly and in fact sometimes my BG is lower than prior to eating it.
I find dark chocolate even more so to be the case than milk chocolate.

Anyone else experience this?

I don't go lower and I have to count the carbs in it, but it doesn't affect
me too badly. I love the Lindt truffles in the blue wrapper. They're five
carbs each and delicious. I can indulge in one or two of those to quell my
chocolate addiction without much problem. NO! I refuse to get help for my
chocolate addiction. There are a few things in life that are sacred and
chocolate is one of them.

Chocolate is the one treat I can have without seeing any blood sugar rise
too. I can go up to about 15 gms at one time and stay completely normal.
However, the big problem with chocolate for me is "creeping portionitis." I
start out eating small nibbles but every day there's the temptation to eat a
bit more so it can get out of hand.

I solve this buy either not buying more than a very small supply or letting
my Sweetie manage the chocolate supply. If I have to ask him for some, it
makes me think twice about going overboard. <g>

LOL - yup i have that problem i must admit. You aint on yer
own there. That's one reason why I never buy the damn
things. If I wand one then I have to walk 2 miles there and
2 miles back so I make sure I really want it first. I could
take the car but that's cheating.

I am a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed ten years ago. I am in very good
control.

When I became diabetic I weighed 136 lbs. I am 5 ft. 4 inches tall. My
weigh dropped gradually until a year ago I weighed 108 lbs. and looked
like a skeleton.

Circumstances beyond my control have caused me to be considerably less
active during the past three months and I am gaining weight like crazy.

I now weigh 117 lbs. which is not too much, but I am concerned about
gaining more at this rate.

My diet is okay diabetically. I walk two or three times a week for 30 to
40 minutes
and on other days work out for about five minutes on an exercise
machine.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to stop this weight
gain where it is.

Thanks!

When I was diagnosed I weighed 128 I now weigh 242 all this gained in 6 months.
Boy am I uncomfortable. All this on less than 1200 calories a day.

I discovered the same thing - the effect in bg was not that bad at
all, especially if I kept the portions small, or made artifically
sweetened drink from cocoa as my treat. But I also discovered that
if I indulged more than just now and then ( heh, about once a
month), then I gained weight.

Of course YMMV, but keep an eye on the scales, just in case!

Annette,

Good point, but for now my eye is obsessively on the scale. <g>

I worked so hard to get back to a normal weight, and my blood sugar is so
dramatically improved thanks to my weight loss, that I am determined to keep
at this size!

There seems to be some kind of threshhold effect in my body where going over
150 lbs sends me into a blood sugar death spiral and hitting 170 lbs results
in diabetic blood sugars. It happened during both my pregnancies and then
resolved when I got back into the 130s. Then at menopause when the weight
crept up again I went soaring from 150 to 170 in a few short months--twice,
and both times the health fell apart when I got near 170 lbs.

Now that I'm back in the low 140s, I'm seeing normal blood sugars all the
time no matter what I eat--which wasn't the case when I was low carbing but
weighed in the low 150s! I attribute some of the better control to the
Diovan's effect on my insulin resistance, but I also suspect that it is
mostly the extra weight loss.

So maintaining that weight loss is my very first priority--even stronger
than chocolate, which is saying a lot.
