'evening all

I've been struggling with the numbers lately and when I had to go to Paris*
for the week (on business unfortunately) I feared the worst so, to my shame,
I decided not to try to hard.

4 Hotel "English" breakfasts at the hotel. (2 small sausages, 4 rashers of
bacon, scrambled eggs, tomatoes and white bread roll).
4 Restaurant "French" lunches with wine, (no starters, no desserts bar the
last day).
4 Hotel evening meals, with starters and main course, wine or beer, bread
rolls etc.but no dessert.
Bonbons and cakes (nice chocolate ones mainly) with espresso between meals
every day.
No exercise bar walking from office / hotel to the taxi.

Result - the best set of numbers I've had for ages, went over 6.0 just once
(8.0 - 2 hours after dinner on the second day).

So, I guess I need to move to France? :-)

The only thing I can put it down to is the fact that the meals all consisted
of relatively small portions and the lack of nibbles (cheese & biscuits
etc.) in the evening.

Thought I'd celebrate tonight with fish and chips. 12.2 2 hours later! Silly
bugger.

Later,

Fred
T2, 80mg Gliclazide, 25mg Atenolol (high BP)

* Actually Gonesse but Paris sounded sexier :-)

The red wine would help too, as would the generally lower carbohydrate
levels in French food. There is also a fair bit of fat to consider which
balances it out even more.

British food still has that wartime hangover. We were in a situation
during the war where meat and protein were too hard to source and
produce, so carbohydrates became the main staples (potatoes and bread).
That still exists today.

If you look back at that, and count the carbs, you should have got good
numbers. Subject to just how many bread rolls were involved.
Unless there were lots of starchy veges, it sounds like a good diet.

One of these days, someone will listen to this voice in the wilderness
promoting bacon, or sausage and eggs as healthier than cereal and toast
at breakfast - at least for diabetics.

Timing is so important. If the cakes and bonbons were eaten in
moderation well after a meal and well before the next one, again there
should have neen no BG problems.

You're right about the overall carb count I guess. I think I had 3 potatoes
(that I could identify as potatoes!) with a Pot au Feu one lunchtime and
that was about it. There was obviously some potato and / or rice with some
of the evening meals but in the poncey minimalist resturant style if you
know what I mean. The bread rolls were all small ones and I doubt I ever had
more than 2 in one day. One meal came with a side dish of pasta with melted
cheese over it but I didn't eat much of that.

The other thing I was pleased about is that I didn't put any weight on.
Also, now I think about it, I never felt hungry.

Low carbing here I come I think. Just told 'er indoors that toast or cereals
is out and egg and bacon is in!

Later,

Fred
