Time Magazine - 12 Jan 2004 diabetes article.

Yes, Garry, it is quite an interesting article and well written in a
Time/AOL sort of way with its kind of Reader's Digest style of patronising.

Well done for posting the scans. It's an absolute scandle that Time
expect readers to pay to read what could be potentially life saving
information on line - part of the article deals well with symptoms to
look out for prior to Dxing and I suspect it could enlighten a
substantial number of readers to get tested. As a subscriber, a letter
of complaint will be sent.

That's the most interesting thing I've read in ages.

Sounds like good news on the horizon for us type 1's, but they don't paint a
very good picture for type 2's do they? God, having diabetes really sucks.

Thank You Garry for scanning that.

It was very interesting, even after everything prior I've
read. Nice to see new different info. On the subject of
Insulin Resistance, boy this is true! The guy that figures
it out should win the Nobel. Both my mother and sister
were/are severely obese. Before my natural mother passed
of liver failure she was in excess of 400lbs.

My sister who is 280lbs has a GTT done yearly. She has
been that weight for 15yrs. She also comes out well within
normal limits.

LOL poor me.. the skinny fool of the bunch.. and ends up
a T1. go figure? So... guess it can and cannot be genetic all
the time.

net? If they wanted to publish full text of everything, supported by
advertising, they would publish one of many "Internet" magazines.
Time, however, is not an "Internet" magazine, so they post a bit or
two to see if you have any interest in buying. Seems legit to me.

Why pick on me then?? Others in the thread have said the same thing.....

Do you think we should have to pay to have info that may save our life?????

You say:-
Precisely. Absolutely disgusting IMHO. If they are not an Internet mag then
they shouldn't post anything. The ifo we got was from a fellow DM person not
from Time or AOL.

Sorry bud, not picking on you, or anyone for that matter. Just giving
an opinion.
The point is, would you prefer to know, or not know that there is an
article in Time magazine. It is merely a form of advertising. I don't
care for any form of advertising myself, but it is a fact of life, and
is unavoidable.

I ate, drink, drugged like a man on a short day release .... did that till i
was 19 and then got diabetes, No one else in our family has it, either t1
or t2. I don't feel mine was genetic, i think i brought it on myself

There is an error on page 6, though: the article claims metformin
stimulates insulin production, whereas in fact it improves insulin
sensitivity and does not stimulate insulin production.
