- Advice on pneumonia, please
- Posted on 10-19-2003 | 16 Comments
I am type 2 diabetic and currently am taking both metformin and glyburide to help control my blood glucose levels. I was doing pretty well with my bg levels until the last couple of weeks. I have been pretty sick and thought it was just a bad flu, but it isn't going away. Now my lungs hurt so bad and there is so much congestion. I have had a fever for about a week now, ranging 102 and lower. My doctor will be in on Thursday, so I will go see her then, but until then, what advice do you...
- Red Legs
- Posted on 10-19-2003 | 20 Comments
I'm 61 yrs. of age male with heart problems, COPD, peripheral neuropathy, and diabetes. I only found out about a year ago that I was a diabetic. Question to other diabetics: What, in your opinions, is causing both of my legs to turn red? Both feet gets redish looking and it goes up to about half way to the knees. Looks like thousands of small red dots in both legs.

- Impact Carbs?
- Posted on 10-19-2003 | 7 Comments
I bought some brownies from the low carb section at the local health foods store. On the front label it says "2 impact carbs" and "0 sugar carbs" but on the nutritional information it reads 26 grams of carbs. Should I be concerned about the 26 grams on back label or is it the impact carbs that matter? Thanks,

The chinese tend to have a two track system, either western or traditional. Patients choose which track to use, sometimes both. Some hospitals are all western and some all traditional. The local traditional pharmacy is the source of much first line care, there are also resturants which specialize in foods used in traditional medicine, for which patients might get a perscription.
- Drinking Alcohol
- Posted on 10-19-2003 | 28 Comments
Hi everyone, I gave up drinking alcohol six months ago because my wife is pregnant - I thought it only fair. My GP tested my blood 3 weeks ago and said I was diabetic. I've since had a GTT that confirmed this and have booked in to see a endocrinologist to be thoroughly checked out. What I'm wondering is if it is confirmed that I'm diabetic does that mean I shall never be able to sip on a crispy chaddonay or slurp a bold Aussie Cabernet Sauvignon or chug a VB (Aussie beer). I read recently that...

Today I heard on the news that one in fifty people is 100 lbs overweight and grossly obese. This is very scarey, because it coujld be anyone, I am about thirty pounds or so overweight and have lost forty, I wasnt far from being one of those statistics, The rate of diabetes is incresing, bad hearts are incresing and we are becoming a country of very unhealthy. We must get a handle on this. I dont have the answer, and please it is not a matter of will power, What are your productive...

"Flying Rat" <me9@privacy.net> wrote in message news:MPG.19fb9b26dad49ef89898f0@news.individual.net... Thanks for the advice Ratty. Doctors stress me out at the best of times, so I guess I'm going to have to get over that and take control. I suppose I've already started by getting my own meter, although I was worried about showing the doctor the results. It was quite a relief when he organised the Glucose Tolerance test. Hazel

- Doctors and Testing
- Posted on 10-19-2003 | 14 Comments
Again and again people here query why doctors only recommend testing before meals and fasting, when the general consensus of most posters here is for post-prandial testing. I think it comes down to strategy versus tactics. The doctors can't really control what most patients do on a day-to-day basis, so they use tests which show the long-term trends of our disease. Additionally, the vast majority of their patients are not as pro-active about treating their affliction as the posters here. We,...
- Question about BG
- Posted on 10-19-2003 | 24 Comments
Hey folks, I have *another* stupid question... I have been on metformin (1000mg in the morning and 1000mg in the evening) for almost a month. I have watched my BG levels drop from the 300's down to what they are now (80-100). I am confident that alot of this has to do with the fact I have reduced carbs dramatically and am watching what I eat, also exercising 3 or 4 times a week. I have lost a total of 27 pounds. The question I have is this... Last night, I measured my BG level and it was
- Alcohol - Should I or shouldn't I ???
- Posted on 10-18-2003 | 97 Comments
I've been reading some of the other threads about alcohol consumption and it makes me wonder if I should consider making a small moderate drink part of my daily intake or not. I'm not talking about getting wasted or bombed, but rather thinking about perhaps a single beer or 4 oz. of red wine or 4 oz. of champagne??? I've never drank much and I really don't want to start now at age 41, but if there is a positive reason to consider doing it in moderation or for medicinal purposes, then I'm all...
