Going to bed after eight pints.
You'd expect stellar numbers, wouldn't you.
Just tested....
7.9!
What gives? I honestly thought having a few would impact harder!

Someone more erudite may comment.
I suspect you may have different probs in the morning. Good luck.

Depends on the wine Pete, if you can find one that is made with no added
sugars it doesn't do a thing to my bg. Hugo wines and Bests wines from Oz
are two of my favourites for this.

Must admit, neither of those brands actually occur out here; presumably
blends for export only.

I very rarely drink more than a couple of pints or glasses of wine

got through the best part of 6 bottles of wine between three of us plus
eating a big doorstep white bread and marmite sandwich before finally
falling asleep/passing out at 4am.
Woke up on the sofa at about 10, measured my BG with some trepidation
and got a 4.5! Lucky or what! Then I realised how truly like shit I
felt - worse than I ever remember when I used to do that sort of thing
on a regular basis :-( It'll be a long while before I do that again!

My experience mirrors this. I don't like sweet wine, so it's never
figured in my diet. I usually have it with a meal though. If I go out
drinking, I'll have carbs beforehand 'cos alc drives glucose #s down.
Mind you, I'm t2. A t1 may react differently.

Sweet wine makes me nauseous .... i do like nice strong reds though. I find
the unsweetened red rasises my bg's a very small ammount. It seems the alc
and carbs balance each other out nicely. I'm a t1 .. and i react pretty much
the same.

Who is the philistine over there adding sugar to red wine?
I can't drink whites, and lighter reds like lambrusco because of the
natural sugar content, but added sugar? Ugh.
I know sugar is added to dessert wines and liqueurs, but that's a
totally different subject.

I don't know alan ... but i had a nice bottle of red last night, pre bed was
6.4, woke up at 6.45 am with a reading of 4.2. Lager or bitter does not give
me numbers like this which is why i've stopped drinking them!
Current Favourite is ;
Three sheds red, Merlot Cab Sauv, Adelaide hills, Galah wine, Tregarthen
Riad, Ashton, SA 5137.
Is rather nice and far too drinkable, the only thing i hurt last night was
my head it seems .... slight hangover this morning but that's the price i
pay for finishing the bottle

I don't know that particular one, but the location is central to the SA

I did have a discipline problem at first, but it's like testing and my
"way of eating". I know what can happen if I don't moderate my carbs;
same applies to my wine. So I try to savour it rather than drink it.
Of course, I don't always succeed, but I try. My sig is carefully
chosen.
I hope that didn't sound as didactic to you as it does to me on
re-reading.

YMMV. I have no problems drinking that much, the problems come later.
For me, moderation is about a half-bottle a day. That gives me a glass
with lunch and a couple at dinner.

It's like many other substances, very good for you if used and enjoyed
correctly, very bad for you if abused.
I decided on my "moderation" level from lots of reading, a fair bit of
wine-drinking experience and using my meter.

I preface this by saying I have not had an alcohol problem since I was
twenty, so this is opinion, not fact.
I suppose the best non-medical version I can provide is that when you
can go a day or two without having a drink, and not notice it, then you
don't have a problem.
If you drink enough to get a buzz or affect your reasoning ability on a
regular basis, then you probably do have an addiction problem; and may
also have developed allied medical problems. If you haven't, you will.
That advice comes from a mate in AA.
In my own case, I was lucky enough to get a wake-up call when I woke up
in the drunk tank at Melbourne Gaol in 1966. I was transferred to
another cell which later became the "Ned Kelly" museum - apparently it
was where he awaited hanging. Some claim to fame. I can count on the
fingers of one hand the number of times I've drunk to excess since.
As you bring it up, I will check some sources. You will find a thread I
started related to wine on a.s.d a few months back, with a lot of
references.
Oh, and another thing affecting my bias, I drove cabs on the night shift
for many years. Ask a cabby if there is such a thing as a funny drunk -
funny stories, yes, but drunks are a consistent PITA. Cleaning up a
chunder on the back seat of a cab at 3 am is really hilarious.
So, I stick to moderation; half-a-bottle of red a day, and not every
day.
Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
