Air pollution discussion

If anything Karen , I tried to give you fair warning. If, for example, for
some reason, I was more sensitive to the air, be it because of prior smoking
or not, then I just tried take the information from my brain and correlated
the differences in the air in Philly (on most days) with the air in clean
places like the shore or upstate New York Mountains or Hawaii and it was
extremely easy for me to warn people in this region of the consequences I
found from those comparisons. Again , if your hypothesis is, because I
smoked, I am less able to breathe well because of that and that only, then
the other factors I mentioned shouldn't play into in . Like the American
Lung Association rating of F, or the Epa finding or that other scientist
correlating Lung Cancer to soot and smoke from power plants and If Philly is
around allot of those Power plants, it certainly has nothing to do with me
smoking or not. I didn't coerce those people and organizations to do or say
those things. If anything my hypothesis about Philly air came before I even
knew of those offical stats, so maybe you should think I am more sensitive
to the differences maybe? Finally take a look at a recent news piece of
Alzheimer's risk and its possible causes:
Gandy admitted that the amyloid hypothesis isn't the only one being
rigorously pursued by the medical community.

"There are other models -- potential explanations -- for what causes
Alzheimer's," he said. "Some researchers are looking closely at abnormal
oxidation and the role it may play in the aging of brain cells, for
example."

"There is some evidence that the accumulated damage from oxidation could
result in the cognitive impairments characteristic of this disease, just as
oxidation affects the condition of other cells in the body."

Gandy also pointed out that evidence is building about what he termed
"softer" factors related to Alzheimer's risk and its reduction.

"Lifestyle factors," he said. "It's become clear that lifestyle factors that
are bad for the heart are also bad for the brain. Cholesterol, obesity,
diabetes -- these take their toll on the brain. Living a healthy, mentally
and physically active lifestyle turns out to be a fairly good way to protect
brain cells and, potentially, prevent Alzheimer's."

while the person didn't say clean air, one could easily envision that last
aspect to be just as important with a little trying. So , I gave you my
findings, and if anything I am convinced instead of downplaying what I am
saying or what the epa is saying , its time to work to see how this city or
state or Govt can help us prolong our better existence and maximize our
life. If negative things keep happening like violence and people getting
sick, ask yourself, what if you promoted our govt to get things done to
clean your air instead of telling yourself its not important. I assume if
you have business here or family or homes you have to somehow rationalize
all this in order to feel your doing the best you can. I suggest yes , move
or fight for a better Philadelphia or Pa or USA by urging officals to do
more IMMEDIATELY to clean our air. Trust Me Karen and everybody reading this
in NY/ Philly/ Washington,DC/, its a matter of life and death ( or early
death)
for you and your family NOW, its that bad. We must do more to clean the
emissions from powerplants and our cars and buses now. Not five years from
now, now.Your families depend on sane societies to develop, this is urgent.
the air is worse then I ever imagined it to be often enough. We are
literally dying earlier then we should had sane government done more
earliers. We have things now in place to help with the safety of our people
but we don't force our elected officals to do anything News medial has
stonewalled any effort to see these correlations. Kerry was out boating in
some Atlantic hidaway and could have countered Bushs dismal environmental
record but didn't. I know Kerrry mean well but for some reason he , like the
press simply ignore the health of millions of people . ( remember many
experts now say even exercising in moderate pollution days will do more harm
then not exercising at all.For many cities on east coast, thats the only
alterantive on many days). When they say go out and exercise , what the heck
do they expect people to do if they live in places without clean air? I wish
that was the only negative I had to talk about but its not. EPA gave the
list of cities and metropolitan areas living in unacceptable air and your
local druggest can attest to the number of people taking asthma medications.
So when does a society or news then go about ignoring all this or our
health, in difference to a piece on plastic surgery or a recall for a
plastic part that may injure then children? What freaking world am I living
in? Has the world gone insane ? Is Bush insane?

"Lifestyle factors," he said. "

There is nothing we can do about the outside enviroment but make it
clear to our reps in the white house that something need to be done!
however there something we can do about our inter envorment Ie:"our
own homes"
Each year, poison control centers receive more than 1.1 million calls
about accidental poisonings among children ages 5 and under.
Every 30 seconds a child is poisoined in the U.S.
Calls to poison control centers peak between 4 pm and 10 pm.

Only 30 percent of caregivers are able to accurately measure a correct
dosage of over-thecounter medications to their children.

More than 90 percent of poisonings in children occur in the home.

In children, approximately 60 percent of poisonings involve products
other than medicines such as plants, cleaning products, cosmetics,
pesticides, paints, and solvents; 40 percent of poisonings involve
medications.
if you would like further information on makinfg you and your home
safer
