Posted on 02-28-2004 | 5 Comments

Having had several car thefts we found car alarms of scant use. We've just got a second hand Nissan Micra 1 ltr (1993) and wonder if any of you have tried Disklok steering wheel locks, those big round things that cover the whole steering wheel. If you've tried them or know anyone else who has, can you comment about them? Evi

How important is it to first warm up the car? winter

Has it really been proven that not warming up the car in the winter, will damage your engine in the long run? And if it is in fact required, how long should you let it idle before driving off? Any links on this topic?

I have a winstar 2001 and every time I make a sharp left turn it makes a "clunk" sound. Should I be concerned? What could be causing this? Bad tie rod?

How To Get Title To An Abandoned Car?

I thought someone on here would know the answer. If there's an abandoned car and a person wanted to get the title for it what is the procedure. In general terms of course. Thank-you

Every time I get a safety, they tell me I need a Tie rod.
Posted on 02-19-2004 | 9 Comments

Every year I get 4 different cars go through a safety inspection. And every single time the mechanic tells me I need a new tie rod. I more or less trust my mechanic, but in the same time I would like to be educated in the area. I just wonder how can they tell if the tie rod is shot? do they check it while the tire is still on? Can you only check it if the car is on the hoist? Is it something that I can check myself before I get the safety done. When my car was on the hoist...

We live in the NW and have to drive a lot on icy/snowy roads during the winter. Road safety is the primary concern of ours over any other consideration. So we are looking to buy an AWD/4WD car soon. Are there any makes other than Subaru with this feature? Thanks.

Censure Bush
Posted on 02-18-2004 | 6 Comments

In an attempt to evade responsibility for the misleading statements that pushed the nation into war, Bush has announced plans to form an independent inquiry to look into what went wrong. An inquiry would serve the Bush administration well: it would envelop the issue in a fog of uncertainty, deflect blame onto the intelligence services, and delay any political damage until 2005, after the upcoming election. But the facts need no clarification. Despite repeated warnings from the CIA and the...

Starter/Battery Question
Posted on 02-17-2004 | 3 Comments

I recently put a new (rebuilt) starter and a new battery in my Chevy Suburban at the same time. The old battery had 775 CCA, the new has 875 CCA. The new starter seems to *really* crank over. Here's my question - Is the new battery pushing the starter harder (possibly decreasing its life expectancy) -OR- does the starter only pull the amps it needs, not more, so the extra 100 are sitting in reserve so to speak. I realize that the old worn-out starter had 120K+ on it, but the noise is...

Heater control module
Posted on 02-17-2004 | 1 Comments

OK I'm new at this newsgroup thing Anybody got a chevy with automatic climate control, i.e.1998 Chevy blazer? On my vehicle the heat will not work. Blend door seems to move but no heat. Hose from engine to firewall gets hot but not the return. I think there is a valve on top of the thermostat that controls the flow of coolant to the heater core. It may not be working or perhaps there is a fuse that controls it. Help
