- Resistence of 5W bulb (Ohm's Law)
- Posted on 11-18-2003 | 8 Comments
12V-5 watt bulb, cold, 2.6 ohms. 10 watt bulb, cold, 1.6 ohms. Do not forget that the resistance goes up as the filament gets hot, usually a factor of about 10 times on a 12v bulb. You have to use a meter setup that applies the 12v to the bulb and actually measures the current accurately, then you can use ohms law to determine what the hot resistance is going to be of the bulb.

- cavalier leaking water
- Posted on 11-18-2003 | 5 Comments
I have a 99 Cavalier with a very slow leak of water. I first thought it was washer fluid but I traced it to a small black tank near the washer fluid tank. After searching the internet I found it is the lower part of the air intake assembly. The tank is part of a larger part called the air inlet duct. My question is why would there be water leaking from this? Is it normal? Is it causing harm so it should be replaced? Thanks.
- Windshield not 100%

Godamnit! I was just windexing my windows this morning upon discovery of two pinhole sized fissures in the windshield from that long trip down I5. From what I remember twice something from those big rigs flew up and hit the windshield making a noise. A pebble? A piece of road debris? And so now the glass windshield has something to show for it. I should be thankful that there are no obvious cracks but i'm still irritable by the fact...

- 94 Buick Lesabre stalls
- Posted on 11-16-2003 | 3 Comments
My 94 Buick LeSabre stalls at low RPMs. If I don't let it idle for too long (more than 30 seconds or so) it will continue to run. After driving for couple of minutes at 40, 50 mph or so, it usualy will take more time to stall or start to hesitate. If I have to stop and go within short distance it will stall or start to hesitate sooner. Recently, I installed new spark plugs and wires, air filter is OK. I replaced the Crankshaft sensor but the problem continues. I have a ACTRON ScanTool CP-9110...
- Coolant Capacity of a 1995 Geo Prizm
- Posted on 11-14-2003 | 1 Comments
Hello, Found info on autozone: "For your 1995 GEO PRIZM: CAPACITY - ANTIFREEZE NEEDED 7/8 GALLONS FOR A 50/50 MIX " So, 50/50 you need 7/8's gallons of coolant, therefore you must have a 14/8's gallon capacity. Ah.... divide sqrt 3, no.... carry 1, so 7/4 so => 1gallon 3quarts, or just 7 quarts max capacity. Ah do the math
- Just tinted window...now windows screech...help!
- Posted on 11-12-2003 | 2 Comments
I just tinted my windows on my '04 G35 Coupe....but now my drivers side windows screetches when I roll it up. It only screetches when the windows is almost fully up....only when there is about a 2 or 3 inches left to roll up then it starts screetching. It leaves these scuff marks on the inside and outside of the window where it screetches. I tried rolling up and down several times and cleaning the scuffs each time (thinking maybe the tint glue got on the lining for the window and is sticking...

I just got a new set of tires. When I took a look at them this past weekend, I noticed something. The arrows on the sidewall off the tires don't all point forward. On the driver's side, they point forward, but on the passenger side, they point backwards. This isn't right .... right? Mike mikechiu@overlunch.com
- Ripoff Mechanic wants to replace my brake pads
- Posted on 11-11-2003 | 11 Comments
well, 2 things : 1- 10% thickness left on the pads is more than due for changing the pads. New pads have app 9mm thickness. Min thickness specified is 1.6 mm. If you have 10% left you must have app 2-3 mm left. Time for change. Else you might ruin your rotors which are much more expensive than pads. Besides, pads wear faster as they get thinner. Reason: there is less material to absorb and dissipate heat generated from friction. 2- $280 is high. The mech must have included calipers, rotors...

- Speakers - wiring question
- Posted on 11-10-2003 | 11 Comments
My car had an aftermarket stereo installed. As usual, the installer hacked the harness, spliced the wires, and taped it up. How can I be sure the speakers were wired in phase. The polarity on the speakers is not labelled. The wire leads are the same colour. Is there a test you can do with a VOM meter? Thank you

Hello everyone, I am about to receive my first 'Firmenwagen' and the decision has come down to the two models in the subject. Of course the BMW is more costly, but then it also has a few extra horses under the hood. Overall (for me) this is a very tough decision. :-) Has anyone of you been in a similar situation? Has anyone of you some helpful advice to offer on the matter?
