'92 Grand Prix Stalling
Posted by Lukus

My '92 Grand Prix LE (V6 3.1L) has started stalling on me in that past
couple of weeks. Turns out I also changed a dead battery around that
same time.

Car starts fine. But no matter how long I let it warm up, often, it
will stall as soon as I put it in Drive or Reverse and press on the
gas pedal (or while waiting at an intersection). It starts right back
fine but might stall again as soon I press on the gas pedal. If it
don't stall, it will often hesitate.

The engine does seem to sputter at times and on occasions, it smells
rotten eggs (clogged converter?) Often, when I restart the engine, it
will idle very high for about 5 seconds... something it never did
before. When at a complete stop or rolling slowly with my foot off
the gas, it will rev ever so slightly and idle.. rev... idle.. as if
the car was being bumped (not sure if i'm explaining this clearly).

I looked to see if i had a vaccum leak or a disconnected hose/wire but
don't see anything out of place. Any suggestions?

TIA

My 91 Olds Cutlass did the same thing. Turned out to be a totally dead
fuel injector.

Good Luck
