The DMV is so insidious. They are allowed to tax used property sales.
Posted on 03-07-2004 | 146 Comments

Dear all: Because of the DMV is such an evil entity, it tries to charge you sales tax on used cars. This is completely insane. No used items should be charged tax. I know even used guns bought at gun shops do not carry any sales tax. The DMV is just pure evil incarnate. After just waiting in line for two hours to get a simple title and temp tag at the DMV, I am very angry not only at the fees I paid, but at the attitude of these govt. apathetic workers. I would suggest

Villager Front End Noise
Posted on 03-06-2004 | 8 Comments

My 1999 Mercury Villager with 57,000 miles on it just started making a noticeable clacking noise in the left front when starting forward from a stop and turning (either way). I took a look behind the left front wheel, and I see the rubber boot has completely separated from the inside of the wheel/hub assembly...exposing the drive joint. I'll take it in to the dealer tomorrow. Can anyone give me an idea of the likely resolution of this problem...and how serious it will be?

Last changed:March 1, 2004 Dear Friend, I am a retired attorney. A few years ago a man came to me with a letter similar to this one. He asked me to verify the fact that this letter was legal. I told him I would review it and get back to him. When I first read the letter my client brought me, I thought it was some "off-the-wall" idea to make money. A week and a half later we met

I have a Golf-1997 which I bought recently. It failed its emission check with very high NO, and the CO level was marginally high. It runs great and has a sports muffler. Please let me know what could be wrong and how could I repair it? Would any kind of solvent poured to the gas tank be of any help? Need help urgently.

'92 Chevy Lumina minivan jerks at 55 MPH
Posted on 03-03-2004 | 7 Comments

Hello: My 1992 Chevy Lumina minivan shakes (jerks) when it reaches the 55 MPH range. If I let up on the gas, the jerking stops. I just recently had the tires balanced and rotated and had new serpentine belt installed. I thought maybe the balancing might help fix the problem, but it didn't. Any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem? The van has 124,000 miles on it. Thanks for your help,

update on car stalling when brakes applied
Posted on 03-02-2004 | 1 Comments

this is an update on a post from last week where I was having a problem with the car stalling when the brakes where applied , or when it got to operating temps. it seems this was a two part problem. part #1 was shutting off at temp. it seems the dielectric grease insulating the ignition module from the mounting plate was just about gone and there was moisture in what was left. when the motor got to 185-190 degrees, it would short the module out, killing the spark. after cleaning and reapplying...

A/C problems in my 2001 Dodge
Posted on 03-02-2004 | 4 Comments

Ack! My A/C is acting up in my 2001 Dodge Ram, I am beyond 36k miles & I need some advice. It blows either hot air, or cold air...nothing or not much in between. My compressor always kicks on. The hot air always blows fine, however the cold air will sometimes blow hot...actually about 50% of the time...and when it does blow cold it'll switch to blowing hot usually within a couple minutes. Sometimes turning it off & back on again will make it blow cold again...for just a few more minutes though....

What's So Bad About Consumer Reports?
Posted on 02-29-2004 | 4 Comments

Greetings, Recently I posted a message to an auto newsgroup, it may have been this one, and I had replys of disapproval for my choice of where I got my auto information. I said I read Car and Driver and Consumer Reports. It was the second of these that I was given a hard time about. I don't see anything wrong with their auto reporting and I like that they accept NO advertising from ANY company concerning ANY product. Car and Driver is full of advertising from the different manufactures.

Blown Head Gasket?
Posted on 02-29-2004 | 1 Comments

Help! I have '00 Mustang GT 2V. The car is in great shape and has not been abused. Last week, I noticed a small spot of coolant on the garage floor. This has happened everyday that that car has been run. It leaks perhaps 2-3 TBS per night. The coolant level is not noticable down, but it is a very small leak. Upon closer look, it appears to be coming from the back of the block, on the drivers side. Very hard to see the exact source of the leak, but the coolant is dripping from the
