- Body & Soul 2-n-One Powder Opinions?
- Posted by kayper
I've been looking at the Body&Soul's 2n1 powder foundation
for quite a while. It's been in my "wishlist" on sephora.com
for ages, but it's been out-of-stock nearly as long as I've
had it in my list.
I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with it, and how
they would compare it Shiseido's Powdery Foundation, Lancome's
Dual Finish and Paul B's pressed powder (also doubles as a powder
foundation.)
I'm really pining for the Chantecaille foundation, actually, But
is it worth getting or would I be getting the same quality in a
lower-priced item, ie -- Body&Soul Powder Foundation.
I would appreciate any feedback, thxia,

I've only tried the B&S in Sephora, so I haven't owned it and been able
to wear it for days at a time to evaluate it, but IMHO it is nicer than
Shiseido's - however, not as nice as Chantecaille's! I haven't tried the
Lancome and PB to compare those. What I personally like about B&S over
Shiseido are the shades, which do better at serving those of us who are
quite pale and require yellow undertones in makeup, than Shiseido's do
(Very Light Ivory isn't quite yellow enough for me, and everything else
is too dark). If you get a great shade match in Shiseido, you might not
find any advantage to the B&S.
About the Chantecaille compact - it is lovely, but there are not a lot
of shades. Shell works well for me, FWIW. It is also quite sheer and
doesn't provide the coverage of some powder other foundations. If you
like, say, Water Canvas, you'll probably be fine, just don't expect
anything that covers like StudioFix. This is one I would say has to be
tried on before buying, trying to guess at a shade from looking at
swatches could be way off. Or at least, if trying it on isn't an opiton,
get as many shade recs as you can from here and MUA based on the colors
you wear in other brands.
That said, I loooooove the Chantecaille compact and am on my second
one. HTH,

Sounds like a ringing endorsement to me! :=) Now, don't
go and tell me how heavenly the Sisley Tinted Moisturizer
is next to something average, like say, oooohh, Laura Mercier's.
At $100/tube, my face will have to go out and get its *own* job
to afford that! {=D

Oh, I haven't tried Sisley's, so no worries there. I did really like the
Becca Luminous Skin Color sample I got in a swap. I mean, I really
really liked it. I was about to give in and order from Australia when I
realized it was causing a tiny breakout. I was almost glad! I know
that's warped, but it was a very mild breakout, for one, and it saved me
from having to buy the stuff or feel deprived of it.
Of course, since reading (on MUA, maybe?) that Becca's thing is similar
to the Armani foundation, NOW I want to try that one. But since the SF
Saks has the Armani line, it's not like I need to make a big trip or
order it sight unseen. I can go play with it first.

I would put the Body & Soul powder foundation in the category of "Just
another pressed powder", personally. I can't compare it with what you've
listed since I've had none of them but I have the Body & Soul and wouldn't
rely on it as a foundation. The pressed foundations I've used are the Body &
Soul, Versace ECC, MAC Studiofix and Jane Iredale pressed minerals. Of all
of them, I'd say that the Body & Soul is the least useful if I want a
foundation. I'm only using it as a powder over other non-powder foundations.

When B&S first was launched , it gave true coverage and did well as a
foundation for combo but not really OILY skin. However the line has changed
a great deal since the departure of two women behind the line and one was
the creative genius.....
So there's a reason why in the last 4 years that product line doesn't have
the same style it once had

I have always really liked the Body and Soul 2in1 powder. I bought 5
about 2 years ago when NM was having a half off sale. When I want
more coverage I either use Studio Fix or a liquid foundation.

This really sounds good from some and not-so good from
others. I guess maybe for the current powder-formula
on the market it's a YMMV. I'm desperately trying to
talk myself out of the Chantecaille. I've wanted it
for several years. But as I learned when trying to find
a less expensive doppelganger e/s for BBrown's Heather, I
ended up spending more than twice what I would have had
I just bought the Heather. I may just budget a few dollars
here and there over the next month (a "dry" month) and
go ahead and get that one.

I really like the Body and Soul foundation powder and think it's much more
covering than others have mentioned. The powder foundation has a very velvety
texture, has great shades (although Q is really pink) and looks gorgeous on! I
may whip out my number 2 today!

Foundation Lady has spoken; I'm there already. How about the
Chantecaille? I don't doubt it's gloriousness, only is it really
worth the price? Would I dump all my other powder foundations
and use it exclusively until the end of my days (or at least the
end of my finances?)

Kayper! I know that there are tons of people who swear by Chantecaille however
I do not like the powder foundation at all - maybe because 1) the colors are
all wrong for me (very ashy) and/or 2) it's really heavy coverage. The Body and
Soul is much more smooth and more like the texture of everyone's beloved Oil of
Olay powder foundation! That is just my opinion! But I may be wrong. However
don't drain your wallet for the Chantecaille is my advice

Well, seeing how I just raved about the Chantecaille, as I have before
and will again, and I STILL didn't dump all my other foundations (powder
or otherwise) nor shall I ever, I doubt you will either.
Worth the money? Well, not really when you consider it's like $45 and
it's a sheer powder foundation that only comes in a handful of shades.
It's worth it to me because I see it as a major indulgence and it does
look great on my face. If you're like me, you have very pale olive skin
that's very clear and pretty even, so a sheer formula that comes in a
perfect (for my pale olivey skin) shade like Shell is going to make you
happy. If you're *not* like me, then, YMMV. Actually, IIRC, lots of
people really don't like the Chantecaille compact, for reasons I already
mentioned: not much coverage, very few shades, cost, the finish (it's
sort of glowy, which not everyone likes).
It's not the be-all, end-all that you're guaranteed to adore. I love it,
but I love several foundations all for different reasons. Right now, my
favorites are the Chantecaille, StudioFix (again, I tend to go back and
forth on this one) and Water Canvas. They're all pretty different, but
they all work well for me and I use the one that gives me the result I
am looking for at the time. If you told me I was required to give up one
of those three foundations, I'd grab them all and run and hide until you
went away.
hth somewhat!

It does, actually. I'm pale, but not olive-y. I have
oily skin that is not clear very often, but going for a
full-coverage, matte look is just unnatural. I've seen
what can happen when women try to "cover" the blemishes
and it is NOT a pretty picture. It goes against type,
I know, but if I had to pin down my favorite foundation
it would be the sheerest one of the lot: Neutrogena's
Tinted, the one in the skincare aisle, not the make up
aisle. It's not particularly matte, either. So hearing
about a luxurious, sheer foundation is like candy to a kid.
Irresistable. Even if I happen to apply a matte-finish
foundation, I usually spritz it with a moisturizing mist
before I'm done. I work much harder on my skin than I do
my make up, and when I'm enjoying a run of success the last
thing I want to do is cover it up!
What would make my decision would be what I would get for
the price: a pressed powder. An *nice* pressed powder, but
Paula's Select is one of the nicest I've come across, yet.
I would love to try the Real Skin, but that way lies break
outs. Whatever they put into those liquid-powder-type
foundations loves to hide in pores. Maybe I'm just smitten
with the name: Chantecaille. It's lovely, isn't it? ;=)
Still, I will have to save for the Body-n-Soul, which will
give me enough time to think about it and, hopefully, visit
it in person at a Sephora that actually keeps stock in their
stores.
