- Has anyone had the X Stop Procedure?
- Posted on 04-12-2006 | 2 Comments
"The Food and Drug Aministration authorized use of the "X-stop" - a thumb of titanium on a mount that fits to a vertebra in the lower back - to reduce pain from lumbar spinal stenosis." My aunt is seriously considering having this procedure but would like to hear from other people who have already had it done. Is there anyone out there who can give us feedback or send us to someone/someplace that can give us insight?

Looking for immediate relief from (A) Osteoarthritis (B) Rheumatoid arthritis (C) Soft tissue injuries like sprain, bruises and strain. Many of us do not like to take pain pills orally. We find they require time to take effect. With Aspirin a acetaminophen, there are some unwanted side effects especially G-I tract bleeding. Our herbal cream is made of all natural ingredients. All are effective
- Hallux Rigidus Surgery

I'm only 30 years old and have moderate/advanced Hallux Rigidus on my right foot. After seeing the orthopedic surgeon today he recommended surgery, otherwise it will get worse and the bone growth(spurs) will continue on top. I am pursuing a career that is physical in nature (military or firefighting) and am hoping for a positive pain free outcome that will allow me to continue with physical fitness, hopefully including running.

WHAT'S THE SIMPLEST WAY TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE WHICH TYPE OF ARTHRITIS ONE IS AFFLICTED WITH? I suspect that arthritis linked to a former injury is normally attributable to OA? How effective is chondroitin? What dosage is best? Thank you for your insights.

Diagnosed with cartilage degeneration in the knee (osteo-arthritis). If I exercise about every other day, I don't feel much pain. But if I exercise 2 days in a row, it starts to hurt. My question is: If the cartilage in the knee is degenerated shouldn't it hurt evert time I exercise? Why would it get better with rest?

I just got this diagnosis yesterday from my Rhuemy. Positive HLA B27 and symptoms of chest pain when breathing, lots of soreness and stiffness in joints, possible IBD. I'm a 47 year old female, so I'm a little surprised at this diagnosis. I thought for sure I had Lupus. It might be I have that too, still waiting on that test. I have a few questions. My CRP and Sed Rates were low. Does this mean the disease is in remission for me? How do they determine whether the disease is active

- 3 weeks after resurfacing
- Posted on 02-20-2006 | 1 Comments
It has been three weeks since I had my hip resurfaced. Truely amazing. On two occassions I actually got out of a chair and took a few steps before I realized I forgot my crutches. I am driving and even walking with just one crutch (if I have to carry something in the other hand). Sure beats the way it felt before the surgery. I have to go in for the four week exam next week and then PT for a month.

- Big Toe Joint - Implant or Fusion?
- Posted on 02-19-2006 | 39 Comments
I was diagnosed with Hallux Rigidus (painful big toe joint with limited movement) and had surgery to remove bone spurs and “clean up the joint a year ago. It never did stop the pain & it hurts worse than ever now. The Podiatrist that did the surgery now recommends an implant called a “Hemi”. Frankly he didn’t sound that convincing that it would fix my problem. I went to an Orthopedic surgeon today for a second opinion. Well the surgeon says the best way to go is to fuse the joint together...

Well, I finally went and done it - I got hearing aids. I picked them up yesterday and am now learning how to live with them. A few sounds are surprises. I didn't know the dining room chairs (swivel type) were so noisy! I also will have to learn to speak louder! That surprised me. I have my first meeting at Toastmasters with them today - that will be fun. One of the most pushing reason for getting the hearing aids was that I couldn't hear one speaker and she got the ribbon for the best...
