diet and AS
Posted by Barbara Crumpton

I have been trying the diet for the past week and I am finding that my
symptons are much better. I do not get sick after eating like I did
before. I am pretty much just staying away from breads. I do not know if
their is a correlation between AS and diet but my aunt was diagnosed
with a allergy to wheat and flour as a teenager at Duke University. This
was back in the late 50's. She does not eat any type of bread or foods
with bread in it. r

I found that I am better without wheat, flour, bread etc. I also avoid
cheese - I get a lot of problems with my feet and ankles which flares up
within 24 hours of having cheese. Interesting though - I tried this approach
after my son (who is Autistic and Tourettes Syndrome) was diagnosed as wheat
and casein intolerant so no bread and cheese for him. His coordination has
improved as well as his stomach. I don't feel so bloated and although I have
a bit of pain it is not as painful as it used to be. I can put my feet to
the floor now when I get out of bed in the mornings. If you go for the
formal tests to see if you are wheat intolerant then you'll have to eat
wheat foods for a few weeks before the test or otherwise you'll have a
negative result. You should know yourself though if you start feeling pain
again that the wheat was a likely cause.
Hope this helps.
