I cannot find any research or opinion on the effects of physical trauma on
people with existing arthritic conditions. There is research to show that
trauma can bring on arthritis.
I was diagnosed with mild A.K. in 1989 and never took a day off work. I had
a bad car accident and my spine was bruised. The expert opinion said my
symptoms would last 3 to 6 months but ended up lasting 3 years. He says any
future pain after the 6 months would be due to my existing condition. I have
bruised my shoulder previously and this took 2 years for the pain to
subside.

I have trawled the net for hours looking some information. It would seem
logical the pain and imflammation would be worse in someone that suffers
from an arthritic condition.

Any help towards articles etc would be gratefully appreciated.

I was diaganosed with Fibromyalgia 3 years ago. Was involved in a car
accident, rear ended by a car that was going 45 mph. Caused whiplash,
and knee problems, my knee hit the gearshift.

I have had more pain with the Fibro since the accident, more back and
neck pain. More periods of depression, fatigue and anxiety.

I believe having a pre-existing condition, then experienceing a
trauma, it will of course aggravate the pre-existing conditions. Or
possibly bring out things in your body, because of the trauma?

Then my husaband has MS. Diagnosed over 7 years ago. Last year he
had a accident to his back at work. He was before that accident, in
remission. The accident I believe brought him out of remission. He
cannot work is going to be going on permanant disability now. He too
didn't miss a day of work, hard worker. Now.. well its different.
Harder.

If I find any articles, I will share them.

Good Luck.
