Is Yogurt Ok ? How about IGIA Instant Cover ?
Posted by Tom D.

Hi everyone. Still on my no refined carb diet with so-so results.
Maybe because I've been cheating a bit lately or maybe it's just not
working for me. Anyway, do you think unsweetened yogurt is OK or will
it cause problems ?
Also I got an ad for IGIA Instant Cover. Anybody had experience with
this ? Looks good, but the ad could be total B.S. so I would trust you
folks much more. Thanks for your opinions.

Someone paid to have yogurt tested for carbs ( i can dig the info up if
you want, it's usually posted at a.s.d.l-c).
Apparently the carb count listed on the container is misleading. Carbs
are counted before the yogurt becomes yogurt. In essence, the cultures
in yogurt consume the sugars, so the actual carb count of yogurt is much
less than is listed. IIRC, somewhere around 3-5 grams instead of 15g as
listed.
Just buy full fat unflavored. Not low fat, not vanilla. (buy the lowest
carb count you find in your local store). Then add some sugar free
syrups (vanilla or chocolate) if you want flavorings.
Yogurt is a great way to get good bacteria in your stomache and some
dairy. I mix in flax seed.

I know some people on a makeup board I read ordered the instand cover,
but I haven't seen any reviews yet. If it's any good, it will be
available in stores within a few months, so I'd wait. Do they give you a
range of colors? Color matching is the key to good cover..

Thanks for your reply. My concern with the yogurt was mainly that it
is a dairy product and I know some people have a problem with dairy. I
usually sweeten mine with unsweetened applesauce or fruit of some
kind. I'll have to try the flax seed- it sounds good. Thanks again.

I know you're trying the no refined, but have you thought of cutting out
the fruit for a few days to see if things improve? Fruit is SO high in
carbs and so high on the glycemic scale, if your problems are at all
related to oil production or inflammation as a result of blood sugar,
it's going to be hard to alter that with a lot of fruit in your diet.
Just a thought, might be worth it to try it for a couple days...

I don't think yogurt will cause the milk/dairy problems, but of course
YMMV. However, a lot of people (me included) have better skin with the
probiotic cultures like in yogurt, so for that reason it's worth adding
in and seeing..

I'm not too fond of plain yogurt, but there are several that are sweetened
with Nutrasweet instead of sugar.

Or you don't believe that stuff?

I won't use aspartame either-too scary for me . I like stevia powder
so I use that as a sweetener when I need one. Also, in reference to
the glycemic index, apples, pears, grapes and some other fruits are
pretty low (between 50 and 65) so I eat mostly those fruits in limited
quantities of course. I also pay attention to glcemic load which is
why I limit quanitites. Thanks fo the interest everyone. Suprised I
didn't hear from Arlyn on this one !

If I am craving a soda, and can't find splenda ones, i'll drink a diet

I think the glycemic index is the best tool of all.. (not that I yet
have the willpower to follow it!)

i'm going to say this again..and i know its an unpopular view.. but oh
well.. it worries me the amount of lengths some people are going to with
their diet to try and help their skin.. again, each case is more or less
unique..so feel free to alter your diet and see what happens.. but i went
thru long periods of ridiculous diets that did nothing but depress me and
just made me feel "drained"..and at the end of the day..i still had a skin
problem.. my conclusion is that for me (personally).. my diet has next to
nothing to do with current skin condition.. i still just recommend you eat
as healthy as possible..but dont starve yourself.. and dont remove the
simplest pleasures in life... i'd say keeping yourself as mentally cheerful
as possible is going to have a better effect on your skin than any diet...
if you're squinting whilst you're eating ..its just not worth it.
put it this way.. if on monday they announced the definite root cause of
acne is sex and chocolate cake.. on friday i'd still have acne.
deuce. =)

I sort of agree.
I think it's worthwhile to go on low carb/higher protein (not calorie
counting or starving) for a week, cutting out all refined carbs. If a
person doesn't see a change on 20g carbs per day, then they should just
move on to something else. No point in trying various diets for months
and wasting time and money.
And even though I know that low carb helps my hormone breakouts, I still
am stubborn and most of the time do not follow it.

I think it's a lot easier to not stress about skin the older you get.

There is a yogurt sweetened with Splenda, it's called Blue Bunny
yogurt sold at Super Walmart. But I just buy plain yogurt and sweeten
it with Davinci or the Torani syrups. Right now my favorite is the
coconut flavor and I've tried the chocolate, raspberry and amaretto
flavors, amaretto is pretty good too.
