Washing Face?
Posted by Melissa Ann

How many times a day does everyone wash their face? I use to wash my
face three times a day but Dr said it was too much. Now twice ( morning
and at night) but I wonder if I added a third time and applied the cream
to my face would it really hurt? I doubt it....

The pH of your skin actually protects it, and most cleansers tend to
alter that pH, at least for a little while. This can work to leave the
skin unprotected, and is why you shouldn't wash your face too much.
There are certain cleansers that strive to match skin's pH, but
generally you don't need to cleanse your face that many times a day
unless you work in an environment that would expose you to dirt or oil
or something.

Twice a day is plenty. In the a.m., you pretty much only need to remove
your overnight topicals, so you don't even necessarily need a cleanser.
At night, a makeup remover followed by a gentle cleanser is all you need.
Cleansing more than that won't help at all, and probably will make
things much worse.

Why do you want to apply the topical a third time? Can you apply it
without cleansing? You don't want to over-irritate your skin..

Just wanted to speed up the process with the creams Dr gave me....but I
guess twice is enough. I don't work around any oil or dirt and I don't
even wear make up, so I guess Im good. I will stick to washing twice a
day.....thanks for the info. I can still apply the cream an extra time
if I really needed to......I guess I just still have it in my head that
acne comes from dirty skin, which it does not. I feel like the cleaner
the face, the faster it goes away. Even though I know that's not true.
Thanks again.

I wash my face in the morning (shower) and apply my Cliniqué Total
Turnaround Cream. I don't wear make-up so once a day is all I do....I don't
have a single pimple...

Yeah, sometimes ya just want to *do* something, anything, to help it
out! I know how that goes, but try to resist, just follow the product
directions OR less.. but not more!

IMO, three times a day is too excessive and will irritate your skin, plus
its a pain in the ass... stick with morning and night... even the night wash
can be a pain.. especially if you've been out drinking.. its also difficult
to explain to a girlfriend why you spend more time in the bathroom than she
does.. :|

Usually four times. I have oily skin/face (I hate it maybe more than my
really bad acne) so I must do it that way... moreover with sulphurous soap
(with extracts from Dead Sea) that is quite aggresive but good on the other
hand.

Ha, yeah I get that line from my girlfriend a lot. I find it difficult to
explain to her since she has never had a pimple it seems and has a very
basic face care routine. But then again she thinks I have perfect skin when
I know I don't, so maybe it's all in the mind. Who knows.

Wash your face TWICE each day - NO MORE! The water should not be too hot,
but it must be at a reasonable temperature. For me I find hot water works
really well, however, I wouldn't recommend that for most people.

Use an exfoliating micro-beads type face wash in the morning and rinse well
with plenty of water. Pat dry with a clean dry towel - DO NOT RUB. At night,
use a simple gentle fash wash, rinse well with plenty of water and pat dry.

It is also advisable not to rub too much with the face wash. Ideally, you
should limit the amount of time the facial wash remains on your face. That
means quickly washing your face with your finger tips and quickly rinsing
with water.

As for benzoyl peroxide, I recommend 2.5%. That's all that is needed, and
many people find anything stronger actually causes spots. So beware!
