- Scared of B5
- Posted by Dragan Pietrovich
I know everyone here say it work. And I am sick of acne, very frustrate and
embarrassing to my life. But I am afraid to harm self by using elephant dose of
B5. I know this is supposedly nontoxic even in large dose, but is this proven?
I dont want to find out years later that this cause major damage to body like
DES or other drug thought to be safe before.

Sorry, it IS unproven, the long term effects for these megadoses is
unknown. If anyone says otherwise, ask them to show proof. People have
had serious problems (cardiac in one case, eye damage in another) from
Pantothenic acid supplementation.
However, doses of 2 grams a day have been used by people for decades to
treat allergies and the like. You make still have side effects on
2grams, it's still considered megadosing. (Watch for: insomnia,
decreased energy (after a few months), delayed wound healing, teeth
sensitivity, and dry eyes (which can cause serious corneal damage. All
of this can occur at 2grams, but almost all will stop when you stop
taking the supplement (at least so far that seems true, except for the
scarring bit) The dangers would seem to be less when taking the lower dose..
2 grams a day should still show results. Maybe not total clearing
(depending on luck, mostly) as fast, but you should see a reduction in
problems and reduced oil. And 10s of thousands of people have used this
dose since Herb Mindrell rec'd it in the 70s, so at least you aren't
guinea pig'ing the astronomical dose..
hth..

Anyone here use 2 gm dose and get results? I possibly feel ok using 2 gm but
can someone show study with 2 gm use for any reason (not only acne) of B5?
If documented I will use 2 g / day.

Dragan,
Not everyone here says it works. If you don't want to take the B5 then
don't take it. Personally, I would not take it only because B12 makes me
break out really bad and I have no idea if the other B vitamins as well.

Why don't you take accutane go o a derm and keep an eye on your blood
analysis for every 2 months?
- Posted by Grant
Maybe because accutane isn't the end all be all that some people think it
is? And it can cause some people a lot of problems.

What?? Uh? I don't undestand this statement, try to xplain better please.
Have you used it?
Have you met a derm. a professionist a talked about your problem?
- Posted by Dragan Pietrovich
I have seen gen practitioner. He say to try topical then oral first before go
to term about accutane.
Years ago I use tetracycline. It give me c diff diarrhea after several months
(it work but I dont want diarrhea again).
Now I start differin. He say if differin alone not work then will also use
topical antibiotic with differin. If that no work then see derm for accutane.
What do you think of this stragegy? Can you go straight to dermatologiest if
not yet try other modality?

Mario,
What that means is that accutane doesn't get rid of everyone's acne. For
many people, the acne comes back. And for many people, accutane causes
severe side effects and serious liver damage.
Yes, I've used it. My acne came back. I was miserable while on it and had
serious side effects.

This is the third case of someone have permanent GI disease due to Accutane.
No way would I ever take it. I'd rather be a shoegazer and never look
anyone in the face for the rest of my life.
- Posted by Dragan Pietrovich
I am afraid of accutane too. And afraid of B5 because doses sooo high.
I will stay with topical now (differin...started 1 week ago). I hope it work.
Dragan
- Posted by Scarred For Life?
I did Differin. Expect to break out for the next 8 weeks, then you will be
really clear. Unfortunately, I lost my job and my health insurance and
could not afford to stay on it. One thing.... read the package insert
carefully. It tells you to avoid using any product with benzoyl peroxide,
salicylic acid, or sulfur when on Differin. This is a little-known warning
which even most dermatologists are not aware of. It says that if you must
use these products, make sure their effects have worn off before applying
Differin (whatever that means).
- Posted by Scarred For Life?
Benzoyl peroxide is not included in the list of medications which interact
with Differin, but salicylic acid is, so be aware that many acne washes
contain this. Here it is from the PI
As DIFFERIN® Gel has the potential to produce local irritation in some
patients, concomitant use of other potentially irritating topical products
(medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers, soaps and cosmetics that have a
strong drying effect, and products with high concentrations of alcohol,
astringents, spices, or lime) should be approached with caution. Particular
caution should be exercised in using preparations containing sulfur,
resorcinol, or salicylic acid in combination with DIFFERIN® Gel. If these
preparations have been used, it is advisable not to start therapy with
DIFFERIN® Gel until the effects of such preparations in the skin have
subsided.

after a quick search on google i found that Roche hide information about
Accu/Roccutane, and it seems that it's a 'normal' policy of that company.
searching a litle more i found out that in USA, some people are thinking
on prosecute Roche, i'm in Portugal, because Accu/Roccutane, not only
causes IBD, but also psychological problems, and suicide.

Do you have any real evidence that the accutane caused your Crohns?
Its very possible that you would have developed Crohns with or without
the Accutane.

theoretically it's probably impossible to say that with 100% sure.
but i never had health problems of any kind, except ACNE, when i was on
Accu/roaccutane as i said before, by the end of the treatment with that
crap, it was when i started to have non-stop diarrhea, pain and it never
stopped till i started to take Claversal and a corticoid (after i was
diagnosed with Crohn).
there was no time between those two events, the end of the accu/roccutane
treatment and the beginning of crohn disease.
so i really advise everyone to try other ways of acne treatment and stay
away of that crap.
know i still have severe acne and i got crohn too, and believe me, you
don't want to have acne and at same time have crohn.
