- A sad thing happened
- Posted by Faceless
I've never posted here before, but something really bad happened down
the street from where I live. This guy had really bad acne and was
getting serious scars. Everyone always picked on him and called him
crater face and stuff like that. The other night he killed himself. It
has been told that when police officers arrived they found almost
every acne medication available on his bed. Apparently he used them
all at once and his skin broke out really bad. They say that's the
reason he killed himself. Because nothing worked for him. Not even
Accutane. Sad way to go.
Acne is a monster that destroys people's lives.

That is a very sad story. And it's a shame.
Acne is hard to control and can happen to anyone....lots of people have
it to different degree's and no one should make fun of anyone for having
it.

if this is true, then its very sad.. over the last few years i've seen
numerous suicides possibly linked to acne.. i say possibly because in most
cases even tho the person had acne theres no way in telling for sure if that
was the main factor for their decision.. i've never heard of a suicide note
that stated acne was the reason the person took their own life.
i remember many a day as a teenager, crying in my room because the local
cool kids had taunted me in public.. nowadays all is forgiven..i even say hi
to them.. as they are mowing my lawn.

Even if no one mocked him he still might have killed himself. The
pain from having cystic acne can be very depressing especially if
nothing you have tried has made it better.
People do destroy lives, but I think the blame here goes to the acne,
it is a terrible disease.

No, the blame here goes to the kid who killed himself. He made the
decision. If he hadn't had acne, he still might have killed himself. We
don't know who this kid was or what his family life was like. So
speculating that it was the acne that forced him over the edge is
just...well...speculation.

True that there are many factors that could have influenced his
decision, but if the above information from the original post is
accurate it sounds like his never ending struggle with acne played a
big part, if he tried accutane and that didn't work I bet he was
feeling pretty hopeless. I know I would. Every problem you have is
magnified a 100 times when you have BAD acne, and what seems bad to
one person may not seem bad to another. So it was his decision, but
maybe he chose dying instead of living with acne for the next 20-30
years ,which I've seen some people do, in that case it was his
decision, but i wouldn't blame HIM for choosing to end his life, I
would blame his trouble with acne. If he had every acne medication on
his bed when he killed himself that is a pretty good indication that
he was very upset about his acne. Regardless of whether this kid
killed himself because of the acne or something else, or killed
himself at all(this story could be made up), I think the main idea we
can bring away from this post is that acne is not just an aesthetic
disease it can also be a very powerful emotional disease.

Again, with no disrespect if this is true, and again we are still
speculating.. like most people on this group there have been times when
i've been through hell and back with this disease.. over the past years i
believe its done everything from costing me jobs, girlfriends and even a
marriage.. however.. the true measure of courage is to fight another day,
to me suicide is just a cop out.. true, you may still be battling it at
30..or 40.. or you may wake up one day and its magically gone.. not
likely.. its more likely you will eventually meet someone who sees through
it.. have children, and then your acne seems almost ridiculous to worry
about rather than the health and well being of your children.
plus i'm an optimist..i still believe somethings around the corner to wipe
this disease from medical history.. and i'd rather be around to enjoy the
news when it does.
