what product do you recommend to unclog pores, like blackheads? any
ideas for a good weekly facial scrub would be great too. id prefer
something over the counter.

Blackheads are hard to clear. Over-the-counter, I like Neutrogena Deep
Clean Gentle Scrub. It's not overly drying like many similar products.

Everybody's facial needs are different. This works for me

Night 11 pm:
Wash w/ Purpose soap
Neutrogena 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide thin layer all over face. More again
on trouble spots.

Morning 8 am:
Wash w/same soap
Neutrogena Pore clearing Astringent (in blue bottle) gel (salicylic
acid 2%)

Evening 7 pm:
Wash w/purpose
Neutrogena same gel

I started with just night routine, then night & morning, then
proceeded w/evening step.

St. Ives medicated scrub
Two or three times a week (use only when there's noticeable flaking of
skin / sloughing off of skin). Use gently

Following is available from online stores
I sometimes substitute purpose bar with M.D. Forte's Glycare cleanser
and astringent with M.D. Forte's Glycare I solution.

I like Clean and Clear microscrubber (purple tube) for my Holy Grail OTC
scrub product, it's gentle enough for daily use.
Online ordering, I like skinclean daily scrub because I can mix it with
my cleanser of the month

Chemical exfoliants are basically sal acid (in whatever strength your
face can handle) or aha's like glycolic acid (again, whatever strength).
I rotate those products, there are quite a few that I like..

Basically, just get vigilant in using a manual scrub or a chemical scrub
daily, and check any products you buy for comedogenic ingredients (don't
trust the label if it says "non-comedogenic", often that's false. Check
the ingredient list at http://zerozits.com/Articles/article6.htm or in
varioud other books, etc. And don't use sodium lauryl sulfate.

Comedogenic ingredients = clogged pores.

You could get a peel done, too.

At home methods (like the above) work great, just are slow going. Be
patient, it'll clear up with daily attention

Kita, you are back! I missed you.

Have you (or anyone) ever tried jojoba beads? I haven't, but they are
supposed be gentle scrubbers. If you have, how did they compare to the
Clean & Clear? Thanks,

Stuart

Ever try a facial? Boy can they hurt, but those technicians sure know how
to clear up every last black head

Do you like the Proactive cleanser? I have ultra-sensitive skin. I'd say
that's a bigger problem for me now than my acne.

Stuart

If only we knew the ingredients to that super-secretive bar! I suspect you
may be having some kind of delayed hypersensitivity to it. The reaction you
describe is identical to what happened to me with a tea tree oil deodorant.
If I were you, I'd give it one more go, but no more facials for you.
Otherwise, yr gonna go crazy trying all these new soaps. I suspect that you
secretly like trying new soaps though, because I'm the same way about new
topicals for scars (I've tried nearly everything mentioned in this ng). It
really sucks that I broke out, because my skin was looking incredible. Even
when I did break out, the skin that was not affected looked awesome. I
suspect it is the vitamin e in the stuff. I've never been able to tolerate
it, whether topically or internally. What if I use it for a facial and
rinse with the Finishing Soap from the Carley's people? Hey, if that soap
can prevent BPO sensitivity, maybe it will prevent me from a tocopherol
breakout. Anyway, right now my routine is Finishing Soap as needed for oily
complexion, Carley's scrub about 5 times a week, and jojoba oil day and
night. So far, VERY UNIMPRESSED with jojoba oil.

just my 2 cents

This is a copy of an email I sent to Nature's Plus. I'll post their
response.

Hello

My friend and I are using the Nature's Plus Natural Beauty Cleansing Bar,
product number 5990. We both love the scent and how it affects the skin.
However, he recently had a reaction to it in which his face became very red
and dry and the skin cracked. Considering how moisturizing the bar is, it
seems unusual that this would occur. I was wondering if you could list the
ingredients in this product to make sure that there is not something in it
which he may be hypersensitive to. The website has a space for ingredients,
but it is blanked out.

Thanks in advance for your help

I tried pure jojoba oil, and it just sort of made me oily. Maybe I used too
much. I've got my eye on Jason's 98% Aloe.

I wrote Nature's Plus an almost identical email. They advised me to call
them, and when I did, they refused to give me the ingredients. The guy who
talked to me told me that he didn't even know the ingredients. I can't
quite figure this out, because if I were a competitor, couldn't I just have
a bar analyzed be a chem lab to determine the ingredients? Maybe it isn't
that easy.

I sort of like trying new things, but if I can find an inexpensive routine
that works just right, I'll stop. My acne is mild but very persistent, and
I'm just never satisfied unless I'm 100% clear.

Jojoba only moisturizes for me, it doesn't clear me at all. But it

I read an article at Life Extension Foundation about Aloe being not good
for daily use. The same properties that work against inflammation in it
somehow contribute to cell aging, or something. I forget the details.
IMO, this isn't a big worry, except to note that I don't want to use it
every day, all over my face, for months or years. YMMV, I'll post the
article.. Interesting, anyway..
But aloe is still miracle healer for short term or spot use.
Don't you have any aloe plants?
I just use the stuff out back, best source!

I had this same problem with Skinclean. But that is still a web-only
sales, so I figured that's how they skirt the law. But how can a retail
product not fully list the ingredients?
Call up nature's plus and say that a dog or kid ate the soap, that you
need the ingredients list for poison control? They'd have to list it then..

Not me

My acne is mild but very persistent, and
Welcome to the ASA club hehehe
