Does anyone take any vitamins along with a daily vitamin to help
skin....something not too expensive? I have heard Vitamin E is good?

I take C, E and MSM for my general health, but especially for my skin
and nails. I also take a B complex on a doctors recommendation.
Vitamin E got rid of those tiny white cholesterol specks at the
corners of my eyes, and I think (on a hunch more than anything else,
there are so many claims) that vitamin C improves the effect of MSM on
skin health.

I take a non drousy antihistamine, 500 mg of vitamin C (with
bioflavonoids and vitamin E) and a multivitamin.
The vitamin C raises the collagen production rate; that's probably not a
bad thing; it probably helps the healing process.
I try to avoid getting more than 100% of anything in supplement form
(but vitamin C, E aren't anything much to worry about, but even so, I
wouldn't recommend anyone go much above 500mg of vit C, vitamin D you
can go a bit above 100%- there is evidence that quite a lot of people
are deficient even on 100% RDA supplements of vitamin D.). I'd also very
much recommend against going above 100% vitamin A; unless it is in beta
carotene form, where you can take as much as you like, provided they
aren't totally stupid amounts.
I also often take half a *red* onion, cut it in half and then
cook/steamed/microwaved just until the juice goes red. That in itself is
a decongestant and a fairly powerful antibiotic; and red onions are
stuffed full of bioflavonoids. Alternatively a few raw spring or salad
onions, but they are lower on bioflavonoids. Other people may complain
about the onion smell; but I find my skin improves on it, after 6 weeks
or so. Unfortunately I don't believe it works unless my breath smells :-(
YMMV. Good luck.

My grandfather would eat a raw onion any time he felt like he was
getting sick.. I don't ever remember him actually being sick, so it must
have worked!

Sounds sensible.
Onions, any of the onion family, particularly garlic, particularly raw,
especially crushed or chewed, contain reasonably significant levels of
antibacterial, antiviral, antimycoplasmic and antiprotozoal chemicals.
They're there to protect the bulb against infection. A few billion years
of evolution can't be wrong I guess.
There's atleast a couple of problems: a) the chemicals are sulphur
based, and not everyone's liver can handle them b) some of the chemicals
are blood thinners, so people can have problems from bleeding,
particularly if they are on warfarin.
The chemicals are pretty cool though; normal antibiotics tend to induce
antibiotic residence, that's much less common with these, partly because
they are so broad spectrum.
