Hi Stuart
Hope you are still clear on the Nature's Plus. I just received my bar in
the mail today. I'm gonna use it twice a day and my Carley's in the shower.
Have you experienced any further flaking/dryness? Just wanted to check in
with you. Hope yr well.

No flaking or dryness, and I'm still really clear. One tiny bump near my
hairline. (I used a different shampoo the last 2 days, hmmm.)
My buddy with the SUPER-sensitive skin (even more so than mine which is
sensitive), is also using this soap once/day. He says he can't use it more
than once/day or he turns reddish?

I have a very oily T-zone, and I use the Earth Science cleanser when I first
get up and before I go to bed to get rid of the excess oil/shine. This is a
very mild and non-drying cleanser. I was using the Nature's Plus Cleansing
Bar for everything before, which meant 3 times/day, and that proved to be
too much.
In the shower, I use the Carley's Smooth & Clear Cleanser, which serves as
my exfoliant and hopefully the BP stays on long enough to be antibacterial
as well. Carley's suggests a finishing soap to remove any BP left on you
skin which might irritate it. I'm using the Nature's Plus bar for that.
I didn't try it expecting it to be an acne fighter. It had a great scent,
and it claimed to be free of drying/irritating ingredients. I really liked
it, but I guess I overused it, because I got dry spots and started flaking
like crazy. On the other hand, my skin was clearer than it had been in a
LONG time. I switched back to Aveeno and moisturized the dry spots. It
took about a week to completely recover. Unfortunately, my mild but very
persistent acne came back! I decided to go back to the Nature's Plus Bar,
but this time limit my usage to once/day. Within 3 days, I was just about
perfect again. It's been about 5 days now, my skin is still clear, and I'm
watching carefully for signs of dryness. I guess I haven't been using it
long enough to proclaim it my miracle cure, but I'm keeping my fingers
crossed.

Stuart,
Just wondering why you gave up on the Finishing Soap - just tried it this
morning, and I thought my skin feels great.
Thanks,

Carley's Finishing Soap doesn't have any. Also, the Nature's Plus bar seems
to keep my skin really clear. I like the Carley's soap -- just
experimenting to find the best combination for me.

I should mention that he says he really likes it and is going to continue to
use it (Nature's Plus Natural Beauty Cleansing Bar).

The Carley's people are really incredible. I emailed them yesterday and they
got back to me within a matter of hours. They are so dedicated. Everything
they say makes perfect sense. I must say that I have achieved almost total
clearing with their products, even if I don't always use them correctly. So
now I'm totally confused about how to use the Nature's Plus, if at all. I'm
thinking of doing a Nature's Plus facial once every few days. I used it last
night and my skin feels tough as leather, just like after a TCA peel. Here
is the email.

the studies we've seen have shown that you can't long term (or even short
term) change the skin PH by applying anything to your skin. And if you
think about it, that makes sense. the skin ph goes all the way through your
skin to your capillaries carrying your blood. Your blood controls your skin
PH. How can washing something on your skin change your skin PH deep into
the skin? Not possible unless you are absorbing mass amounts of acid into
your blood stream. But never let the truth get in the way of a true sales
opportunity. Dove right now is advertising their soaps this way. Funny they
don't mention they use animal ingredients and test on animals too. If I had
to nominate the worst products on this planet it is them.
I know you want to be 100% clear. There are two factors that cause acne.
Bacteria under the skin and/or allergies. The skin PH does affect how
friendly an environment the bacteria find themselves in. That's why women
notice their skin get worse during their periods. Their hormones change
their skin PH slightly and then the bacteria that causes acne can flourish.
Women say hormones cause acne, but not directly. Clear & Smooth keeps these
bacteria under control, but they are always present.
Our soap PH is over 11. Which is way alkaline. and I wouldn't change a
thing. Because Acidic soaps, (which really aren't acidic, but closer to 7
which is neutral and they really aren't soaps either but detergents), don't
get your skin properly clean. Removing the dirt particles is partially the
secret to your 95% clearing. to get you the rest of the way clear involves
finding out what else is touching your skin you are allergic to. I never
became 100% clear until I eliminated all store bought soaps and
shampoos(and just washed my hair with our natural soap). But that's me. It
could be your deodorant, or your clothes detergent (Cheer has a new
detergent called FREE and GENTLE)
We've had just too many anecdotal stories that confirm this. My daughter
had acne start appearing around and under her mouth. We changed her
toothpaste. One without sodium laurel sulfate and her skin cleared right
back up. Closys II is available at www.smilekiss.com and Walgreens.
We love these skin care boards, because we get just tons of new customers
from them. Probably more than eBay. but I just can't read them because of
all the bad information there. It is a free for all and anyone can comment.
No one and I mean almost no one gets this allergy connection with acne.
this whole concept is just too difficult and hard to make a buck on to be
widespread. Our products, especially our natural soap, just can't be mass
produced. so the big companies make up sales stories and people just
continue to have acne and switch from product to product. I believe we
could clear every person, if we could solve their allergy riddle. but most
(about 2%) who don't see almost instant clearing give up too quick and are
back on the acne treatment merry go round.
I hope this answered your questions.
if not, ask more. We love to talk about the subject. thanks

no offence Stuart, but you're gay, right?
I only ask because I'd feel awful if my instincts were wrong, i kind of need

I noticed that I really had to close my eyes tight whenever I use the
Finishing soap - the high alkaline (ph=11?!!!) explains it then. I have
decided to put the soap back in my drawer for now. I've also read of the
skin's acid mantle which needs to be maintained for the normal microflora to
survive on the skin. It takes about the 3-4 hours for the skin to recover
it's normal pH - but using the very alkaline soap on a constant basis might
be pushing it.
Thanks for the thoughts. By the way, just ordered some Earth Science skin &
hair products online. Looks like their products are skin friendly!

I wrote that, not Stuart. And no, I'm not gay. With the way I've been
fighting with my gf lately, I wish I was, though, so that I could kick her
out.

Not to pry.. but does your girlfriend have acne? i always find relationships
with "good skin" people harder to maintain.. probably cos they dont
understand or i get frustated at them, or maybe just paranoid of what they
think?
deuce.

She has perfect skin. Our relationship is hard to maintain becuz she is
very sensitive to everything I say and gets hurt easily. I've tried putting
her on evening primrose oil to balance out her mood swings, but she refuses.
I wound up taking it myself to see if it helped my acne.... didn't do a damn
thing. BTW I must say that Stuart is THE MAN. This Nature's Plus Beauty
Bar plus Carley's combo is doing amazing things for my skin. I don't know
how he thought of it, but he deserves much props.

I don't know exactly what's in it. According to the paper that came with it
is:
". . . absolutely free of soap and the harsh, irritating ingredients found
in soap such as: caustic soda, lye, tallow, hexachlorophene, and alkalis.
Natural Beauty Cleansing Bar is a unique cleanser made from natural, organic
ingredients. Humectants and emollients are used to help maintain the skin's
delicate moisture balance and to soothe irritated skin. They are combined
with 500 I.U. of Vitamin E and the special astringent and healing qualities
of allantoin."
My skin is still really clear. I basically don't worry about acne anymore.
Even the pores on my nose are totally clear. I did use a little Carley's
moisturizer this weekend just to be on the safe side.
This morning, after I showered, my hands were really dry. I wash my hands a
lot, so I can't be sure what did it, but it might be the cleansing bar. I
put some lotion of them, and they are fine now.
No other drying effects anywhere else so far. I think as long as I limit
the bar to once a day, and keep it away from certain delicate parts, I'll be
ok.

What are the allergies they refer to that can cause acne? I recently had
allergy tests (skin prick tests) and came up only with cats and pollen.
Further details appreciated.
