Nlite laser experience
Posted by Michael David Pedersen

Hey all,

I used to follow this group regularly a few years ago. At that time I tried
a large range of treatments for my acne: topical and oral antibiotics,
diets, _a lot_ of so called "wonder cures" (most recently Chinese
medicine). All without any effect.

Don't get me wrong, though. I am sure some of these approaches can help
other people, but it just wasn't for me. That is one of the major problems
with acne in my opinion -- what works wonders for one person does nothing
for others; and often it is difficult to nail down exactly what has helped,
because break-outs arrise unpredictably for many people. Everything you try
is a shot in the dark and a gamble with you money, at least that is my
experience.

So I more or less gave up finding a solution, and my condition remained the
same, perhaps with a slight improvement over the years. I am now 22 by the
way, and still haven't learned to accept my acne problem completely.

Recently i heard about the Nlite laser treatment for acne, and that gave me
renewed hope. Today is exactly three weeks since I had my first laser
session. I was rather disappointed at first because there seemed to be no
improvement -- but recently (within the last 5 days) I have been getting
very few new pimples. So (fingers crossed) I am very exited about this.

It is of course too early to say anything conclusive. I just wanted to let
people know about the treatment, because it does seem to have a great
effect on most acne patients, and without the side effects of stronger oral
medications (like Accutane). I have been wondering why this hasn't been
discussed more in alt.skincare.acne -- the only few testimonials I could
find on the web are from the acne.org forums. But if results are as good as
claimed, this really is _fantastic_ news. Has nobody here tried it yet?

For info on the nlite acne treatment, do a google search. In short, you pay
a considerable amount of money (in Denmark corresponding to app. $375) to
have your entire face irradiated by the nlite laser, normally once every
three months (so this is _not_ a permanent cure). One treatment should
provide up to 50% acne reduction and, over time, help to alleviate certain
types of scarring.

Anyway I really hope this will help me and a lot of other people. Sometimes
I hate the world for not having a solution to the seemingly simple problem
of acne, when mankind can do virtually anything else. However I try to
remember that going through this makes me the person I am, and gives me
wisdom that I would otherwise have been without. I will try to keep you
posted as time allows this treatment to do its job.

Regards,
Michael.

$100 a month for 50% temporary reduction in breakouts seems very
expensive, unless there's a drastic exchange rate there.

But I'm very curious, please keep updating.

Can you explain the equipment they used on you and the exact procedure. Is
it basically the same thing as the Dermalux home treatment seen at
http://www.dermalux.co.uk/?

Hey,

I am pretty sure this is not the same thing. Here is a some information on
the treatment including a photograph of the laser machine:

http://www.bodybenefits.biz/treat_de...sp?TreatID=229

(note that this was just something I found on the web, I know nothing of
this particular company). I doubt that this machine can be purcased for a
reasonable amount of money; there is only one of its sort in Denmark, and
that is shared amongst 3 clinics (Denmark is small, but still).

The laser gun shoots light with a diameter of app. 1 cm, and the gun is
moved to a new place on the skin after each shot. I would say that 20-40
shots are applied to cover the whole face. For me the laser treatment
itself took less than 30 minutes, but before that a few masks where applied
(and removed) to clean up my face and thus increase the effectiveness of
the laser.

From what I gather from the link you posted, the Dermalux thing emits light
and you just sit there for 15 minutes every day -- I have no idea of how
this works, but I think it is basically different from the NLite.

As Kita pointed out, the NLite treatment is quite expensive. I have tried it
because it was my last resort (and I would give pretty much anything to
improve my acne condition notably). I have heard that prices in the states
vary a lot, so maybe you could find it cheaper if you are from that part of
the world. Regarding the 50% acne reduction, I am not sure what to think of
that. I was told, however, that the severity of my acne should be reduced
permanently by some (unknown) factor after each session, which sounds
promising.

NLite has been used for wrinkle reduction for some years, but its effect on
acne was not discovered until early this year. Below are some further links
if you are interested (again, just something i found on google):

(beware of linewraps on this)

Regards,
Michael.

This only came out a year or so ago, afaik (?), so I think that's why
there's not much info about it online. Although I have seen threads on
other boards about it, over the months..

Hey, keep us posted on how this goes. I'm pretty interested in trying
these new lasers myself. Have you looked into the Smoothbeam laser at
all? Sounds similar, but might be more permanent. Unfortunately,
there is only one of those machines in my state! Anyone know an easy
way to find derms w/nlite lasers?

I would recommend the SmoothBeam. Check out www.acne.org 's message board.
There is a lot of discussion of these lasers and other good information.
