- Flushing...

Hey there... for basically my whole life, if it's ever been very hot or I've
been working out pretty hard, my face would become very red and very heated.
I was wondering if there were any treatments for this? I heard maybe IPL
laser treatment? Are there any others that are better?
Thanks

Hmmm isnt this normal? The paler your skin the brighter red your face
would be.

No.. I'm not pale first of all... second of all, I have pale friends and
their face may get a hint of red.. but not tomato-esque.

You have rosacea. There are some treatments but they are very tricky and
they don't work for everyone.
There are some really good yahoo rosacea groups you might want to check
into.

You do not neccesarily have rosacea, and dermatologists and doctors are very
quick to just dismiss this condition as rosacea. It may very well be rosacea
because I am not a doctor, and I have not seen your condition but I too have
the same problem. Two questions to ask is if you sweat more than most
people, or more than you are comfortable with? and does it ever happen in
times of stress, anxiety, or in a social atmosphere? Take a look at this
link http://www.hyperhidrosis.org/facial_blushing.htm ask your doctor if it
may be associated with this nervous condition.

That could be it. I'd like to know the best way of getting rid of this.

There is a surgical procedure. ETS Microscopy where they make a small
incision under the arm and either cut, or clip the nerves that are
responsible. This is a last resort, just like Accutane is a last resort for
acne. There is a drug called Clonidine HCL that works for some by relaxing
the blood vessels. I found for me that it only worked for about an hour
after taking it then gradually wore off. I would not recommend drinking
alcohol while on this because it enhances the drowsiness effects of
Clonidine. Do a Google search for the drug to read more about it and you
will also come across result reports. My facial blushing is due to social
anxiety disorder and I did some research about anxiety and read on many
websites including www.drweil.com that a preparation containing Passion
Flower works very well. I bought a relaxation formula that has Passion
Flower, Valerian, and Hops extracts which are all natural sedatives and help
me relax. Do a search at the Dr. Weil webpage for anxiety and he has some
good tips. Even if you think you do not have anxiety, you may just not know
you have it. It could be very subtle and cause the redness when you get
worked up or excited. I suggest trying a Passion Flower/Hops/Valerian
formula for a couple of weeks as well as breathing exercises to bring down
the redness when it happens. Dr Weil has great exercises that combined with
the P/V/H formula has kept it under control totally. I have even come off of
the Clonidine. If this approach does not work, ask you doctor about
Clonidine, and if that does not work you could look into ETS surgery if it
is that bothersome. Breathing exercises can be found here:
http://www.drweil.com/app/cda/drw_cd...mbstype=Spirit
The relax formula I use can be found here. I'm not sure where you live, but
I think Natural Factors products can only be found in stores in Canada, but
I'm sure you can order by internet to other countries. Just search the
product name in Google and you will find an online source.
Don't dismiss the exercises, they do work wonders to help relax and take
away redness. The best one is the one called the 4-7-8, I feel like I am
high when I do it. I am not one of those all natural people and I am usually
very skeptical of natural remedies, but the P/V/H works, and so does the
breathing. Give it a shot, good luck.

"I heard maybe IPL laser treatment? Are there any others that are

I believe you are referring to "pulsed light" treatments above. I had
them on my nose to distroy the blood vessels causing the flushing that
made my nose red all the time. I had 8 treatments at $100 each and my
nose is MUCH less red that before.
Not a "cure" but far better improvement than I ever had with meds my
derm gave me.
