- Cutting out dairy
- Posted by Buddee
So I'm going to try cutting out most dairy from my diet to see if that
affects my back/shoulder acne. I already don't eat simple sugars and I don't
eat refined grains. What about whole grains? These should be ok right?
Damn, cutting milk is going to be tough. I'm into body building and I drink
3 protein shakes a day. I guess I'll try soy milk. What about yoghurt and
cottage cheese? I guess those are out too huh?

Hi Buddee,
I been excluding dairy fr. my diet for the past couple weeks and I
find that it helps. I've also been avoiding simple sugars & refined
grains as well. I have been eating whole grains, and find that it
isn't a problem.
I've tried a couple soy milk brands and some are definitely better
than others! If you have a Trader Joe's around, I really like their
Organic Low-fat soy milk. I believe it has about 6 g of sugar, and it
isn't crazy thick like some other brands. Some are so thick that you
could practically eat it w/ a spoon, nasty! I also like Sun Soy
brand, which I found at Ralphs. I did NOT like Silk Soy Milk, it is
way too thick. As for yogurt, I like the Trader Joe's soy yogurts,
but they have quite a bit of sugar, about 19 g. They come in peach,
raspberry and strawberry flavors, but they all kind of taste the same
to me! Whole Soy yogurt is also very good, w/ about 17 g of sugar. I
haven't tried any non-dairy cottage cheese, so I don't have any advice
for you there. If you have a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods market
around, you should find many different kinds of non-dairy/soy-based
products.
HTH, and good luck!
FYI: I do not work for Trader Joe's, I just love their stores!

I liked the almond milk better. Somehow the soy gives me the double dog
willies...I don't know why! I haven't had milk in years...I stopped drinking
it when they started cold pasteurization with radiation....OMG!!

1 of the best things you can do is cut out dairy products. they
contain high amounts of iodine (which increases oil secretions) & they
have an effect on the hormonal system similar to testostorone.
(spelling is probably wrong there)
i have done this for 4 years now & it is absolutely far more helpful
than any prescription or OTC creams or tablets.
if you don't believe me, do it for 1 week & see the difference. Make
sure you also avoid any products with WHEY protein which is
concentrated milk protein.
good luck

This is a complex issue. Basically, some people have trouble with the milk
protein, period. (According to Dr. Andrew Weil, among others) so, any dairy is
going to be trouble for them. However, some people have the most difficulty with
the fat that comes in on regular products, some have difficulty with the sugars;
so ice cream will be just about lethal for them. One thing to try for a
weightlifter would be to eliminate all dairy except for low or non-fat cottage
cheese. If you still have trouble with that, then the protein itself is an
issue. Some nutritionist are big on yogurt for it's alleged benefits for
intestinal health, try web-searching for it and you'll have a ton of stuff to
consult. Other non-dairy foods are alleged to have the same benefits (asparagus,
artichoke, oats). Notmilk.com is kind of the gold standard for sites that are
meant to scare you away from dairy. It's worth a look.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be going through with it. As a weightlifter I just
can't give it up. I don't really think it's the source of my problems
anyway. I was just desperate for a while and feeling like I'd try anything.

There isn't actually any proffessional status on this..... you'd be better
off cutting out your sugar, salt, and fatty food intake. Going for salads
etc when possible and avoid things like fried foods.
I don't drink milk anyway, but I think it's important you get a balanced
diet, if you do happen to acne or whether you don't, a healthy immune system
would be more effective at combating it. Without any dairy products it's
very difficult as the enzymes in milk, cheese, etc, help a large amount
towards keepign your immune system healthy.

in diary products- yoghurts etc. These can really be hepful, not only in
acne case. For example, if you take oral antibiotics it's almost
necessary to take L. Acidophilus either as a pill or in natural form-
yoghurt. Quite a lot of people noticed big improvement on acne when they
had yoghurts everyday.
