- Beard and acne medicine
- Posted by Don
Hello
I have noticed that growing a beard protects your face against acne,
so i am letting my beard grow. My hair is black, as well as my beard.
Lately my beard has been changing color, it has been changing to a
redish orange color. Does this have anything to do with the acne
medicine "PROACTIVE" i am using twice a day?
also... is it a good idea to keep the beard, i dont mind it at all, im
just wondering if its interrupting the medication of taking its full
effect.
Advice would be appreciated
thanks

Any product that contains benzoyl peroxide will lighten hair. Is this
chemical listed in the ingredients of Proactive?

I've had a beard for 25 years and I never get acne where the beard is.
I would highly recommend keeping your beard. It's also great for
covering any scarring you might have on your chin/jaw area. HTH !

Yes, it's bleaching your hair. As JPope said, Benzoyl Peroxide is a
bleaching agent, just like hydrogen peroxide.
If you don't like the new shade, you could not use the proactiv there.
Or just use the toner on that area.

Thx on the follw-ups guys... i dont really mind the new color, i was
just curious why it was happening... and yes i have noticed where the
beard is thick no acne grows there(like mustache are and chin)... im
19 years old and my beard isn't full so there are still many parts
prone to acne
thx again guys

i grew a beard last summer.. i found it was a great and easy way to cover up
acne.. i didnt stick with it tho.. i have a very young face, and i guess i
just didnt suit a beard.. be careful because there is a downside..when it
came time to shave it off.. all hell had broken lose under there because i
guess no BP treatment was getting in .. if you are going to grow a beard..
try trimming it as much as possible.. so you can at least treat any obvious
trouble areas.. go for the cool 80s stubble look =)
deuce.

So if the Benzoyl Peroxide bleaches the hair, can it also bleach skin
blemishes? If not, are there any specific creams or lotions that can rid the
skin of discolorations?
Thx.....

No, it won't (noticeably) fade skin color.
Hydroquinone will. (fade overall)
If you're looking to fade scars or red marks, get a good quality Vitamin
C serum of 10% or more. (cellex-c or orangedaily)..
I think mulberry root extract (or some other extract?) fades as well..
